  • Works great except that now reports can't use custom added fields under nodes Chris Welch
  • We have some linux scripts using SNMP and putting information in custom fields in the solarwinds db that we use. Our interface details include client IP address and mac address, the ability to shutdown or enable the port, and a history of that port interface status.
  • Thanks, that sets me in the right direction for sure. Chris Welch
  • We use CCA in the dorms, but the campus doesn't use registration........yet We are re-writing the script now so the switches will send a trap when a mac address change is detected. We tried this before, but some of the switches (4500's) didn't support it. For now, we poll every 30 minutes. We are changing to traps and…
  • Sure, but it's a perl script that uses open snmp. We have a linux box that we run in conjunction with our solarwinds that allows us to enable or shut ports on campus and also populates what mac addresses and IP addresses are on each switchport. We have almost 15,000 ports on campus here. Lemme grab the script for ya.…
  • We created a script that got that info via snmp and populated the custom field for us. That was the easiest way we could think of.
  • I've done all that and get this error... Error connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, reason: -> access denied (java.net.SocketPermission xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:22 connect, resolve) Of course the x's are numbers Chris Welch
  • besides all the other features people want such as custom mibs and such.....how about having ro snmp strings as well as rw strings and the ability to shut down ports or enable ports thru the web. I know you can shut down and enable ports from the manager, but then you have to have only the rw strings being broadcast…
  • Try IPAudit or ntop. We use both on campus and it gives very very detailed information. Chris Welch
  • We have printers send syslog messages when they are out of paper, ink, or when someone opens them. We can then alert based on those.
  • It can do some management stuff though. We wrote some scripts that can shutdown or enable ports on our cisco devices and put the links on the interface details page. Comes in extremely handy!
  • I had this problem as well. Shutdown the netperfmon service and do a sql query changing all the bandwith speeds to match the connection speed.
