You probably meant: "At the end of the project, the client was NOW able to manage all devices in their network"

Since response actions are tied to alerts (rather than nodes or monitors), my habit has been to set up a wiki, and then include a link to the related wiki article in the alert. If you want to go REALLY generic, you actually NAME the wiki article the same as the alert. Then you can have a generic action link that something…

Oh believe me, it's been asked. Over and over and over again! Stay tuned for more developments.

I'm really glad this helped you out at the right time! Report back and let us know how the guide worked for you. If there's a way to improve it, I want to know!

See my long-winded response here: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/message/231657#231657 But the upshot is that you don't need a feature request. There's a separate alert you can enable that tells you how SNMP is doing. Combined with regular old ping you should be fine.

These updates are extremely exciting to me (and a bunch of other long time users as well!). Kudos to the development team for taking this on, and for putting up with all the pushing, whining, and demanding we have done over the months and years (done with love, but still...) * Enhanced SNMP Support* SNMPv3 Support* We…

No negativity taken or inferred. You asked some good questions that were worth addressing. And thank you, especially, for following up with aLTeReGo on what you'd like to see. That's our meat-and-potatoes here in the office.

This episode of SolarWinds Lab dives into JSON and REST with a vengance. Although the focus is Slack integration, there's a section at the end specific to ServiceDesk and all of the techniques would work with any REST-ful application: SolarWinds Lab #40: Awesome Alert Integration: Slack, Service Desk and More - YouTube…

The story I mentioned was <mumble mumble> years ago, and Ferrari bikes have spiked in price a bit since then. And the salesman said that if my Dad bought the car, he'd throw the bike in for free.

What's struck me most is how the pandemic, and 2020 overall, has affected what I WANT to watch, rather than how much of it I and my family are watching. My already low tolerance for zombie stories (why does the carnivore population not just follow this slowly shambling, mindless, numb-to-being-chewed-on, smelly buffet of…

You know there's a "Node Search" and "Interface Search" resource you can add to summary pages, right? It even lets you search by other data points (machine type, vendor, custom properties, etc). If the node is on the page and you can't find it, there's always Ctrl-F And if you go to the Manage Nodes page (which I know…

Great point that I'll pick up on in later sections of this series. You have control over HOW you unplug, and what you consider to be "unplugged" in the first place!

No vote, but I think that the bigger idea of how and when we choose to identify our tribes is interesting in the larger overall context.

Literally, "Leon Likes (a)literation." Lots.

We're working to get the forum all cleaned up and pretty. It should be up and running soon. Stay tuned!

If you download the Orion SDK, you'll see sample scripts for Perl, VBScript, and Powershell. So as long as your change system can call one of those script types you are on your way. - Leon

are you saying you have a machine being monitored by multiple polling engines? That's possible, but a-typical for all but a few special cases (such as if you have pollers in different locations, and want to triangulate up/down of a single system from each location). Otherwise, nodes (and their associated disks and…

First, congratulations. Second, you hit up on a rule that I discovered back in my "exam hamster" days (days which may be returning shortly) which is this: NEVER GIVE UP!!! First, there are questions in that ("that" being ANY of them. They all do this) which don't count. They are simply there to test the QUESTION itself.…

Remembering the prompt for today is "I never thought I'd need..." and then we can all fill in the blank, I'd finish that sentence with "...to turn things off for my own health." I've never been one who was "threatened" by information. I may not have liked a particular piece of news, or a program, or book. But over the last…

No need to feel bashful or shy, we'll have plenty of non-smalltalk topics to talk about - the latest SolarWinds features, your environment, your burning questions, and more!

I'm deeply DEEPLY conflicted about agent-based monitoring. On the one hand, it bypasses a lot of the issues around security, polling frequency, etc. On the other, in every implementation of agent-based monitoring I've seen (two different Tivoli installs, BMC Patrol, NetIQ), the agent-to-staff ratio has been about 1,000 to…

"When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years." - Mark Twain

Then we started at about the same time - when Windows (Windows 286, I believe) came for free (on about 12 5/25" floppies) when you bought a copy of Excel 1.0; and PageMaker came with a run-time version of GEM. Yes, if I work at it, I can still recall my favorite config.sys setups, and my best ANSI strings for the DOS…

The idea of a containerized and/or cloud-based Orion platform is an intriguing idea, something that gets a lot of water cooler attention around the office these days at SolarWinds HQ. I would encourage you to reach out to lee.calcote, aLTeReGo, serena and the amazing folks in UX (including meech) to share the details of…

So if you would like to be part of the team, we're looking for good Geek: SolarWinds Jobs - Head Geek - Applications and Service Delivery in Austin, Texas, United States
-
There are some definite perks to the job, and as I wrote waaaaaaay back at the beginning (https://thwack.solarwinds.com/community/solarwinds-community/announcements/blog/2014/08/01/my-name-is-leon-adato-and-im-… ), being Head Geek is something that suits my particular personality and preferences very well. Not everyone is…

This is actually part of a larger issue where SolarWinds overall (NPM, SAM, etc) is NOT UTC-aware. It's locked to the poller time, which means a geographically dispersed installation creates mis-matched data at several points.
