One aspects of being a Head Geek I love the most is staying home and creating thoughtful pieces, free from the noise and interruption of the office. And one of the aspects of being a Head Geek I love the most is traveling to gatherings of like-minded folks - whether that's into the office in Austin or out to a SWUG or even…

I appreciate the reply. I'm not sure what Charisse (c1ph3r_qu33n) would say about security by obscurity being a "first and foremost" aspect. I actually think that this technique has been proven false time and again since in the days of port scanning, massive breaches, etc nothing is truly obscure just because it's not…

But that's no different than it was before - the ObjectSubType is the actual database field which "Polling Method" relates to, and that field has been there forever. I'm sure it exists SOMEWHERE, but as far as I can see, nothing in the nodes table indicates devices which calculate uptime via SNMP versus Ping.

Loved Bob, huh? that explains SO MUCH about you, Ms. Deal.

Reminder, you can do it now with custom properties (as Shail alludeded to). Described here:

This version is looking better and better! If I want to create an alert, report, or just a query that lists systems using SNMP for up/down status, what value in the database would I look at?

Over the 30+ years in IT, I've become the de-facto tech support option for not only family and close friends, but also my synagogue (and several other synagogues in my area that I *don't* attend; my kid's school(s); and a couple of local businesses (ah, the joy of communal living). It quickly became apparent that if I…

While it's not EXACTLY what you are asking for, it should be noted that you can create a custom report to do this - filtering the events list to just the codes you want to see. The page would refresh every 5 minutes (or whenever you hit refresh manually, which is the same thing as the Message Center) and may get you where…

The "form follows function" effect for WINCE was simply too compelling for me. Having a 5.5" clamshell "thing" with a keyboard (tight, but usable) and a serial port, which ran scaled-down versions of Office apps, and could connect to the network was everything I needed. I could Telnet and TFTP to my network devices, I…

It's sorting them alphabetically because the data is varchar. Not saying this ISN'T a bug, just saying it's understandable why it's happening.

DONE! Let me know if you need me verify my address so you can send me the drone and nexus. You know, cause it's totally mine.

That's Ticket number two! Congratulations. Email me at leon.adato@solawinds.com so we can arrange things.

"Vacation" is, for me, the best example of how one word can be perceived so differently by two people. My wife's parents owned a travel agency. She was born in Spain. She has two brothers adopted from Columbia. She looks forward to vacations the way a 6 yr old looks forward to their birthday. She plans with the passion and…

I live in a community where - by necessity - "within walking distance" is an essential factor. That cannot help but create both a sense and a functional reality of community that most folks haven't experienced since the 60's. For 25 hours each week, nobody drives - in fact, nothing more powerful than a tricycle is seen on…
