It's likely a group policy or local policy issue. I would check the Windows event log on the remotely monitored host to see what errors you're receiving. They may lead you to cause of the issue.

You do need SAM, but it does not require the latest version of SAM. SAM 5.x should also work.

As stated above, there is no interface for updating these credentials. The can only be deleted and recreated through the Orion web interface.

I genuinely do not know the cause, as this appears to be very specific to NetPath. That suggests to me that it likely has something to do with the WinPcap driver, but that's just a guess. cobrien​ or jason.carrier​ might be able to provide more detail.
