Option #1 - Rename the node caption the CNAME. Simple, effective, but not terribly scalable. Option #2 - Add the CNAME as the reverse zone lookup for that IP address and Orion will automatically pick that up when the node is added. Option #2 - Add the CNAME as a custom property. Easier to import en masse then changing the…

Yes, Agents support overlapping IP addresses without issue. The only case where this may not work is where the hostname, IP, and SID are all identical as a result of cloning/imaging the endpoint. At the very minimum, the SID must be unique between each endpoint.

SAM uses a wide variety of industry standard agentless protocols for monitoring. If you have any questions regarding a specific monitor type or protocol I'd be happy to answer them for you. If you haven't yet tried Server & Application Monitor (SAM), I recommend downloading it and giving it a try. It's free for 30 days. If…

ikomrad, can you please open a case with support and post your case number here? I will ensure your case is routed appropriately.

This is the intent behind the following two out-of-the-box alerts. * High CPU Utilization with Top 10 Processes* This alert reports the percentage of CPU usage for Linux/Unix hosts running NET-SNMP as well as Windows devices. It also shows the top ten processes running to help you troubleshoot why this alert was triggered.…

This error occurs when a SAM Component Monitor which uses WMI is currently in a state of 'Down' or 'Unknown'.

This screenshot is coming from SAM's Real-Time Event Log Viewer. What you are looking at is the Windows Event log on one of your machines, which apparently is running the Monitis Smart Agent. You may want to contact their support at support@monitis.com for assistance with this error.

Since VBscript isn't natively remotable I would suggest you look to write this script using PowerShell leveraging WinRM. If you need assistance writing such a script then I suggest posting this question to. This forum is where Thwack's resident "Script Gurus" normally hang out. You might also find the following TechNet…

Yes, APM includes Application Templates for all of those applications based on best practices. These templates also include Expert Knowledge that describe in some detail what is being monitored and pre-configured thresholds. Below are links to the AG that will take you to more information about these templates. SharePoint…

You can go into the account details for that user and look for "Application Monitor Management Pack" and change "Application Details View" to "Application Details". This should give you access. It sounds like you figured out how to add "Applications" to the menu bar, but just in case. Go to "Customize Menu Bars" from the…

Absolutely. I would recommend using the TCP Port Monitor. Another option is to use the TCP Connection State (Windows) template.
-
The TCP Port Monitor connects for a brief second longer than it takes to make the initial connection and then immediately disconnects.
-
I would recommend using the Multi-Object chart resource for this.

The DataOnTap toolkit cmdlets are most likely 64bit. By default all PowerShell scripts in SAM are executed in a 32bit PowerShell process. This means those 64bit PowerShell cmdlets are not available under 32bit PowerShell. You can however change this behavior in SAM and have the PowerShell script execute in 64bit mode by…

If this process is run as a service you could use Powershell to determine if it is hung using " Get-Service | gm Status E.G. PS > Get-Process | gm Responding TypeName: System.Diagnostics.Process Name MemberType Definition ---- ---------- ---------- Responding Property System.Boolean Responding {get;} PS > Get-Service | gm…

You can use alert escalation to trigger other actions if the alert condition remains true for longer than "X" minutes. That's how I would recommend handing that scenario.

It is indeed possible to monitor JMX applications with APM today, provided you have the JVM SNMP Agent enabled. For more information checkout the link below. http://blogs.sun.com/jmxetc/entry/jmx_vs_snmp

Just for giggles, here's the netstat output from one of my DHCP servers

The restful API support you are looking for was added as an extension to the HTTP and HTTPS User Experience Monitors.

The "Location" field for WMI managed nodes in Orion comes from the Active Directory Site Name.

It would seem that AireSpace (recently acquired by Cisco) equipment is not supported by the Solarwinds Wireless Network pack. It comes up listed as an unsupported device.

As it relates to your SAM Application status issue, have you tried upgrading to SAM 6.1 to see if that resolves the issue? Application Status Unknown:- Although SAM is not NPM, our application monitoring seems to have been affected from the update to NPM 10.7. Specifically nodes polled via our additional poller. The…

This can be done easily using the Custom Property Editor

I'm not familiar with the template you're referencing. The Apache template that ships with APM does not use SNMP to collect its information. Did you download this template from the Thwack Content Exchange?

LDAP in what capacity? Please explain in as much detail what you are trying to accomplish.

AppInsight for Exchange covers the mailbox role only. As a general rule of thumb you should monitor the other Exchange Roles using their separate application templates. You can add your own Windows Event Log Monitor to any of those templates to include EventID 10018 specifically, or simply include any/all "Errors" from the…

Does your Orion server have access to the internet?

I believe the issue you're encountering, as well as a potential workaround has been discussed in the following thread.

A good rule of thumb across the industry is to take the minimum system requirements and double them. In this case that would be two quad core CPUs, and 16GB of RAM. http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/en/flarehelp/SAM/default.htm#samadminguide-requirementsforsolarwindssam.htm?Highlight=requirements
