  • The "swjobengineworker2x64" is the 64bit worker process used by SAM for monitoring applications that require 64bit polling. These are typically limited to PowerShell Script Monitors, but occasionally can be used with ODBC User Experience Monitors. The job engine worker process platform option is available from editing the…
  • Create a new Windows Performance Counter monitor you referenced above within a new or existing application template. Then assign it to the node running IIS. Once completed, go to the the Application Details view of that newly created and assigned application containing that Windows Performance Counter. Customize the page…
  • Which of the Progress products at the URL below are you currently running? http://www.progress.com/en/downloads.html Also, what tools are you using to monitor this database today and what metrics are you specifically looking to measure? Lastly, what operating system are you running this database server on? SAM doesn't…
  • Are you talking about Windows Servers? If so this could easily be done using the Advanced Alerting engine. Define the "trigger action" of the alert to "execute program" and have it call the windows "shutdown.exe" utility or download psshutdown.exe.
  • Can you outline what specifically you are trying to do that have lead you to this error? On the surfice it looks like you may be trying to change the user accounts the SeUM Player runs transactions under and are encountering difficulty, but I'm not sure.
  • The SQL user experience monitor requires that a single numerical statistic is returned as part of the query. You can also include an optional message which is usually used for returning the column or row name. The template below should help get you started monitoring your SQL Agent jobs.
  • Yes. What you describe is basic functionality of SAM's process monitor. You can even use the "Start Monitoring" function of the Real-Time Process Explorer to create this monitor through a wizard driven process.
  • I would recommend clicking "List Resources" and deselecting "CPU & Memory", clicking submit, then repeating this process again to re-enable polling of CPU & Memory information for this node. Also, try clicking the "Poll Now" button on the "Node Details" view to force a poll. If after an hour you still don't see data then I…

  • I would like to see a comprehensive Microsoft Exchange template. similar to the information that is gathered with the new Exchange Monitor tool. In addition, something along the same lines for Microsoft SQL. Something that can be used to accurately monitor potential performance bottlenecks on MSSQL Database servers. These…
  • If the Firewall is WMI/NAT aware, (Checkpoint for instance supports changing the IP address in the WMI packets on the fly to the NAT'ed IP address) then this should be a non-issue. If your firewall does not have this capability, you can monitor the host via SNMP. AppInsight for SQL will still work, though some information,…
  • You would need the NetFlow Traffic Analysis module for Orion to do that.
  • Yes SAM can validate content on a page as you can see in the image below. It's important to note however that javascript is rendered locally by the client and as such SAM does not support JavaScript. Our Web Performance Monitor does provide full support for JavaScript through.
  • I'm sure the errors are real. The command "show counters slot/interface " will show you all the types of errors, and how many you have on an interface. Give it a shot. What is the error type being reported by CatOS? Example CISCO-6509# (enable) sh counters 3/16 64 bit counters 0 rxHCTotalPkts = 2 1 txHCTotalPkts = 64 2…
  • Since it appears that you are using Windows authentication for this SQL Server, ensure that each and every SQL User Experience Monitor you have configured in SAM to run against this node has the "Use Windows Authentication first, then SQL authentication" setting enabled.
  • I would recommend against updating the database directly if it can be avoided. Where and when possible I would recommend using the Orion web interface to make any necessary changes, or leveraging the Orion SDK for automation of those tasks.
  • SAM does not have any issue monitoring hardware health from Dell PowerEdge servers running OpenManage v7 as you can see from the snippet below. What's more likely the issue you're encountering is that Dell OpenManage was installed before SNMP was enabled on the server/s. I suggest either changing the node polling method…
  • Integrated in what ways? Certainly the two can be integrated, but it's far more common that SAM replaces Zabbix than is integrated since there is a fair degree of overlap between the two. What exactly are you trying to achieve?
  • wluther, I was able to reproduce this issue in my lab running SAM 6.2.3 and logged this as a bug internally under SAM-3364. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
  • Created a template below that collects this information. Enjoy. Citrix Sessions
  • These letters are essentially meaningless. The "A" in AL is for Application. The "L" is for License. The "L" is the same for NPM's "SL", but no one really knows what the "S" stands for. If it stands for anything at all.
  • It could be a database issue. I had a similar problem a while back when my SQL Server ran out of disk space. Do you have anything worth mentioning in the Windows Event Viewer? Are all the Orion services running/started?
  • It looks like your Windows Performance Counters on that server need to be rebuilt. On that host, restart the "Remote Registry" service. Then at a command prompt execute the following command. lodctr /r Then try testing the failed components again to see if that resolved the issue.
  • You would need the APM (Application Performance Monitor) Add-on for Solarwinds Orion NPM (Network Performance Monitor). This is an additional module for NPM that adds Application monitoring capabilities to Orion NPM.
  • Is it possible you have a Directory Size or File Count Monitor applied to the node?
  • The SQL Agent Job Status resource is related to a specific node. If you'd like the name of the server this resource is showing in the title, you can add that into the "Title" or "Subtitle" as seen in your screenshot above.
  • This metric is automatically collected for all volumes monitored on WMI or Agent managed nodes in Orion. Here's an example -> http://oriondemo.solarwinds.com/Orion/NetPerfMon/VolumeDetails.aspx?NetObject=V:1152
  • Orion does have a web services API but it does not allow you to set status programmatically. What you are describing however could be accomplished very easily with the product if the message was sent via SYSLOG or SNMP Trap.
  • 1) To benefit from the latest features do i have to switch to WMI polling Some of the new features do require the node to be managed via WMI such as Disk I/O Performance Metrics, Network Interface monitoring via WMI, and Windows Volume Mount Point Monitoring, as well as node rebooting. Other features like the Windows…
  • This sounds an awful lot like SAM's new Sustained Status Conditions, which is a new feature available in the latest SAM 6.1 beta.
