It's not likely that SRM itself would utilize the agent to monitor servers, but similar to our Windows Agent, SRM may extend the information collected to include data necessary for end-to-end mapping of host to backend storage.

The issue may not at all be related to the number of Syslog messages. it sounds more likely it could be caused by a device sending malformed, corrupted or messages otherwise containing characters or structures not supported by the Syslog RFC.
