Since changing the polling method from ICMP to SNMP have you clicked "List Resources" on the "Management" resource on the "Node Details" view for that node? Are the volumes listed and are they selected to be monitored? A screenshot might be helpful.

I'll assume what is failing is WMI. Are you able to use wbemtest.exe included with the operating system on the Orion server itself to connect to one of these remote hosts that have been configured to not allow NTLMv1?
-
Have you tried using the 8.3 name in the path instead? E.G. "Progra~1"

This is actually unrelated to both syslog and WIndows Event Logs. This is in reference to text log files typically generated by applications and the operating system.

Do you have the line in your snmp config files that allows the vmware specific mibs to be used? Do you mean the "/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf" or elsewhere?

I'm sure looking back it seems like a cruel joke telling you to use the component ID number without giving you a simple and easy method of determining what that number might be. In the screenshot below the highlighted number next to "AM:" is the component ID number. "AM" in this case stands for Application Monitor. As for…

The out of the box "Restart a service" alert should work without alteration or modification. I just tested it in my lab and it worked perfectly. I would try running the APMServiceControl.exe from the Orion server with the componentID of a service that is running and try to stop it using the "-c=STOP" command line argument.

I would recommend increasing the SNMP Timeout, Search Timeout, and SNMP Retries within the discovery profile and see if this improves your results.

That appears to have done the trick. Thanks for you very prompt reply!

NPM 12.5 includes support node thresholds affecting the status of the node, allow you to alert on a node going into a warning or critical state. For more information, see the following post. Orion Platform 2019.2 - Enhanced Node Status

HolyGuacamole's suggestion would work, but it's not the same approach I would use myself. Instead I would monitor the "Elapsed Time" counter for the process associated with the Windows service using SAM's Windows Performance Counter Monitor. The metric returned is seconds the process has been running, so I would configure…

Correct. The requirements state "The target LDAP server IP address and name must be successfully DNS resolved from the SolarWinds server"

Important: This resource is only shown when AppInsight for IIS is being polled via an Agent. It will not appear if the node is being polled via SNMP or WMI. Additionally, when the IIS log format is missing the required fields, this resource will appear to be missing information. If this is the case, either enable the…

Have you opened a case with support to investigate the root cause of the issue? Without looking through the debug diagnostics it's very difficult to diagnose the potential cause in this particular issue.

It sounds like your SQL server is either configured to limit the maximum number of concurrent connections, or that network latency, packet loss, IDS/IPS, or resource contention is preventing SAM from making reliable connections to the SQL server. Enabling debug logging on this component monitor might bring additional…

As a follow-up, it just occurred to me that the functionality you're looking for is native to Web Performance Monitor (WPM). While it won't return the textual value from the page, it will search the page for the word "OK" and if not found it will save a screenshot of what was displayed in the browser instead. This can then…

Thanks Mark.

You may be able to leverage Application View Restrictions to aid in organizing your applications. There are examples of this in the APM menu bar for Active Directory, Exchange, SQL Server, IIS, Windows, and Linux.

All Legacy Win32 reports are stored under "C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Reports" by default. If you've installed Orion in a different directory then look there, in the "Orion\Reports" subdirectory. If you created the reports using the Web Based Report Writer then these stored in the database itself and don't…

Have you tried using the Custom Object resource?

I deleted all my Wireless LAN Controllers and re-added them but that did not resolve the error "Wireless device was not found in database!"

There are some significant performance improvements that have been made in the next release of NPM (v10.2) as referenced in the blog posting below.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We were able to reproduce this issue and as a result I have logged this as a bug we are tracking internally under CORE-7188.

There are actually a number of templates that provide information on the number of connected sessions. We do not however have a template that would display the names of those users or the applications they are running. Windows Remote Desktop Services (Session Host Role) Microsoft Terminal Services Active Sessions Terminal…

You can define your polling intervals to be 1 minute in SAM, that's controlled on a per-Application basis and the default is 300 seconds (or 5 minutes). I would recommend starting with the Real-Time Process Explorer to select the process, or processes you'd like monitored. The wizard will walk you through the process of…

This is likely due to limited permissions the local system account has for accessing network resources. Unfortunately the Advanced Alert Manager does not allow impersonation when executing external programs or scripts. Instead you need to change the user context under which the Advanced Alert Manager runs to a domain…

That's alright. adatole needs all the help he can get

Application relationships with nodes are an implicit dependency, no different than interfaces or volumes. If the node is down, any applications associated with that node will go into an unreachable state. I hope that answers your question.

The ability for Orion to use Windows Authentication to connect to the SQL database was added in NPM 12.2 and all product modules which include Core 2017.3. Windows Authentication & SSL Encryption for Orion Microsoft SQL Database connectivity
