In the latest SAM 5.5 beta it's now possible to create Custom Properties for Applications. If you'd like to participate in the latest SAM beta you can sign-up here to download to give it a try.

Thank you for your feedback. Custom Properties for Applications is currently on our road map. We'll update the community when we can share more specific information.

shaun_9999, are you saying you stood up a secondary server, failed over to it making it the 'active' member in the pool, then uninstalled Orion from that server? I'm just trying to understand the steps involved that landed you in a vicarious position.

WMI would be the preferred method as it will work consistently across Windows 2000 - 2012. RPC has some advantages over WMI, such as allowing users to monitor custom event logs (Applications and Services Logs), running over a single port (445) with no reliance on DCOM, working through NAT, etc. RPC however should only be…

Depends upon the context and where it's used. If you select this metric in Alerting, the last polled value is used, so no Average is applied. if you select this same metric in reporting and apply a timeframe like last 30 days, then the value is averaged over the last 30 days.

I would suggest doing a test. Take an existing node that does NOT have asset inventory enabled, but verify Asset Inventory is supported on the device by looking at List Resource for that node and ensuring Asset Inventory is listed as an available option. Next, create a new manual discovery in Network Sonar for just this…
-
Asset Inventory is a function of Server & Application Monitor, and is not included with NPM. Have you tried clicking "List Resources" on a server, such as Windows, Linux, AIX? Do you see an option to select Asset Inventory?

Using the report pavel.grim posted above, you can then use the Report Scheduler to automate the delivery of this report via email on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Jay, I think you've done everything you possibly can do. Open a case with support so we can look through the debug logs and see what's going on.

Is this a change fro 8.1? Is there a bug we need to open? Denny, I'm not sure if this is a new bug, an existing bug, or not a bug at all. I've never tried using Orion variables in the custom HTML/TEXT resource. I was just sad to see that it didn't work. If this isn't a bug, and is by design I'll be happy to report it as a…

1) My HP Esxi host display the memory hardware health as well as the dell servers, the HP servers with Windows on them do not seem to display memory This issue is resolved in the latest Beta of SAM 5.2. We'd love to have you try out the beta in your environment and validate this is working for you. All you need to do is…
-
It's likely you're polling these ESX hosts directly and not through the vCenter. This was functionality we're working on adding in the next release. If you'd like to try it out you can download the beta by signing up here.

You may want to consider using IPAM to monitor your DHCP servers split scopes, as this functionality is natively support in our IP Address Manager.

It's likely you need to import the SolarWinds Trap MIB into Nagios. You will find the Orion Trap MIB on the Orion server in the following path. 64bit Windows Path -> \Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Common\SolarWinds-Traps.MIB 32bit Windows Path -> \Program Files\SolarWinds\Common\SolarWinds-Traps.MIB.

The improvements in alerting were outlined in the Release Notes that accompanied the upgrade. They can also be found online. The Legacy Win32 based Advanced Alert Manager can continue to be used if so desired. It can be found "C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\AlertManager.exe". You should however find the web based…

Have you enabled the "Repeat this action ever X minutes unit the alert is acknowledged" option for the trigger action?
-
You're probably using AD authentication? Try going back to the standard authentication for Orion and then run the config wizard again. You should be able switch back to AD auth after the wizard completes. You're probably right, but this has never been an issue in the past. I would classify this as a bug if that's the case.…

The second item listed by jvalin_s above was "application". We have a product named Server & Application Monitor. I mean come on, it's right there in the name people. Let's not forget the SAM!
-
The adding and removing nodes in Orion based on information contained in a CMDB can be done in an automated fashion using the Orion SDK.
-
Note that NPM 9.2 is now available 9.2? I think that's a typo. Maybe you meant to say 9.0 SP2. NPM 9.1 was just released like two weeks ago.

Yes, in Server & Application Monitor (SAM) it is possible to include performance statistic as part of the alert message for the given monitored component. APM (Application Performance Monitor) was renamed SAM (Server & Application Monitor) in the 5.0 release. The current version is 5.2. SAM 5.5 is currently in beta.
-
Yes. Though there is the occasional sprinkling of C++ code and even Java in the case of the JMX Component Monitor. This compiled code does on occasion generate some dynamically created PowerShell scripts in the case of AppInsight for IIS and AppInsight for Exchange.

njoylif is correct. The ${alertobjectid} is the unique identifier for that specific alert. You may find the alert Notes field more suitable for your purposes vs custom properties. The alert notes can also be updated using the Orion SDK.

Josh, do you ever get tired of being right all the time? Sure enough when I changed the URL to the FQDN it worked as it should. Thanks (once again) for your help.
-
You can actually accomplish this without the need for PowerShell scripting using the Agent and the ODBC User Experience Monitor. Simply install the Agent on the host that connects to the SQL server, create an application template that utilizes the ODBC User Experience Monitor, and assign it to the agent managed node.

I believe the macro you're looking for is ${WindowsEventMessages}
