  • Agreed. I've been holding off on deploying EOC until the security model is changed from domain only. My EOC server lives in a datacenter where I can not join to my corporate domain.
  • thanks! this works for me.
  • Disabling specific alerts wasn't an option since the false reporting was varied across all the nodes in a particular APM template. I've explained to support that my environment may be a very limited usage case since our SQL server DB's are running on 64 bit Windows Server 2008. From what i've been reading the Server 2008…
  • RAID5 and SQL Server go together like Oil and Water. can it be done? yes. but the performance WILL NOT be optimal. RAID5 is better suited for applications where you need alot of storage and parity...say, a File server. in my opinion, the best RAID levels for a DB server would be RAID10, then RAID1 mirrored pairs with…
  • I believe there is an APM template that can handle this. Haven't used it myself but plan on doing so. of course, it means you'll need APM in your environment
  • any update on this? I just upgraded to APM 3.0 tonight and Im getting the error "Unexpected error occurred. Value was either too large or too small for UInt32." I already have case #82411 open.

  • Denny, do you have an ETA on this? It looks very odd the way it is implemented in APM. For example, I want to show management the current connections counter in the IIS template trended over a period of time. but they ask, "why are the graphs empty"? Please integrate APM better with the Report writer.
  • Id like to request that feature! Does anyone know of any custom report that would display all changes made to NPM and APM during a specific time frame?
  • I usually add the actual IPs for each node (primary and secondary), Add all the resources respective to each node (usually the "active" node will have all the volumes listed out while the passive node will not) Then, I add the third node as the cluster node, using the SQL cluster Ip address. Not the MSDTC cluster address…
  • Thanks Jiri That works nicely!
  • I've read that article through and through and tried all the suggested steps. The last update from SW support on my ticket is that it is acknowledged as a bug with APM and a fix is in your development queue. I am just posting here to gauge how many others are experiencing the same issue and if there is any known fix for…
  • Donald, can you share with us some details regarding the server specifications for your environment? I am in the process of requesting new infrastructure to replace our existing DB and Polling engines and would like to get an idea of what I should request
  • I got that part. Can you provide an example of what the actual WQL select statement will look like. On a particular server I have two private queues within MSMQ. When I try to query the "messages in queue" object, i get nothing back. I have a feeling I'm not querying the performance counter for the specific instance of…
  • I'm tired of getting my a** chewed out because an application went down and there was no alert. Turns out when I investigate, someone had gone in and turned off the APM component down alert without my knowledge. I NEED this level of auditability within this product. How does one audit config changes in their solarwinds…
  • that poses security problems in my environment. For example, just got out of a meeting today where I wanted to give a business analyst access to teh Solarwinds report writer application. There's no way I'm goign to be allowed (nor want to) give that person RDP access onto my NPM server. Also, managing nodes was WAY faster…
  • if we have this functionality for NPM in System Manger, why cant we have it for APM.
  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the new APM 3.5 allow you to group APM monitors into custom views. I've been looking to this exact same thing with aggregating pref counter data across different servers onto a single page
  • Pretty cool. I like the embedded NodeID in the URL string. One click to take you to the node details page. I'll be using that one for sure!
  • I have about 70 apm elements in my installation and the SW job Engine service is using about 500mb.
  • are there any suppression configured in the alert configuration?
  • I use a product called Netzoom. Its a third party add in for Visio that has tens of thousands of manufacturer stencils. you can make Rack diagrams look exactly as your rack does. If their database doesnt have a specific stencil you are looking for, you can snap a photo of it and email it off to them. In a few days you can…
  • I find the IIS APM template in the latest version of APM pretty useful. It exposes some of the key WMI perf counters specific to IIS (ie Current connections, requests\sec, bytes sent\rec / sec, etc)
  • Miron, many of us also have Big IP devices and have had some luck using custom pollers to monitor F5 Devices. have a look under the content exchange area and you can download custom UnP templates. These pollers query the MIBs for VS info, pool info, Pool health, CPU, memory, etc
  • I'm interested as well. I think theres a SCOM management pack out there. anyway to reverse engineer it?
  • This is a great idea. I dont have that large of an environment, but I have network engineers that never remember to inform me when they bring interfaces up or down on core switches/routers. sure would be nice if Solarwinds NPM could rescan nodes periodically and send out a report of interfaces which have come online but…
  • I'd definitely be interested in this!
  • take a look at this thread. its related. I'd recommend opening a support ticket with Solarwinds. I had this problem and after a few attempts to resolve it, they were able to provide a step-by-step fix. Now, only if i had written that down!! They should be able to help you much quicker since my case has been logged and…
  • Better audit trail on the admin side of Solarwinds is something we've been moaning about for years. I hear they are working on it. So until then, I dont let anyone come near admin privledges on my Solarwinds servers
  • Denny, could you explain the benefits of running Orion alongside SCOM 07? I have some engineers in my organization that are pushing to toss out Solarwinds as our monitoring platform in favor of SCOM.
  • forgot to mention. i've kept the APM in place, but modified the APM advanced alert to exclude the "SQL Server 2005" template from alerting. I can walk you through further if needed.
