Hi, Rane. You can assign a common template to a certain class of server nodes -- based on the operating system in your case -- and then assign additional templates to the same servers based on their specific functions. There's no problem at all doing this. Actually, I would go as far as to say we would prefer you do it…

I posted about the WMI "invalid class" errors previously in this thwack thread: The LDAP Bind Time component monitor from your screenshot is trying to read the counter LDAPBindTime from the class Win32_PerfRawData_NTDS_NTDS. As stated in the thwack post, if you can't remotely read this counter even with the Microsoft tool,…

Iain, here's the microsoft link to the PerfFormattedData classes for Physical Disk performance http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394262(VS.85).aspx

Yup, they'll become active after you upgrade the license and restart the various SolarWinds Orion services.

Okay, I think I have a solution. This works on my test server: 1. On your APM server, run Start > SolarWinds > SolarWinds License Manager Setup 2. Install the license manager program. 3. Run license manager once, and then quit without doing anything. 4. Run license manager one more time, wait for it to detect the upgrade.…

To get the license reset, you'll need to contact SolarWinds customer service. Only they can help you recover that poller license, I'm afraid. :-( See below for something that should get you your poller license back. But if your main APM license is incorrectly marked as expired, you will still have to contact customer…

Do you have APM 3.0? If you do, you can use the Windows Performance monitor component to read performance counter statistics instead of the WMI monitor. Descriptions for that component monitor is in the APM 3.0 help:http://www.solarwinds.com/netperfmon/SolarWinds/OrionAPMPHComponentTypesPerformanceCounter.htm

From what my meager translation skills tell me, his Orion NPM v8.5 Web console keeps timing out earlier than the 600 minutes he set as the session timeout, and he'd like to know why.

That should work. Try these steps: 1. Are you using either Internet Explorer of Firefox browsers? If you aren't, please switch to one of those. 2. Try using Internet Explorer if you are currently using Firefox, or vice versa. 3. It's possible you have a bad file in your web site. Run the Configuration Wizard to repair just…

it looks like it only shows classes from the WMI namespace root\cimv2. Yes, at the moment it only shows classes from the root\cimv2 namespace Virtual Server classes ... root\vm\virtualserver... how to point APM to this namespace. You can still monitor them, but only through a Windows script. A script that returns the…

John, if the login page has a required field for 'email', you're not going to be able to use the HTTP form login template. That template only works for login pages that have the usual 'user name' and 'password' type fields. What you could do, though, is look at the HttpLogin.vbs script in the C:\Program…

There is also an alternative: Install the SolarWinds Log Forwarder for Windows on each Windows box that has events you need to monitor, and use it to forward those events to a Syslog server. You can then use Orion NPM to filter and alert on Syslog messages, and not use Orion APM at all for this. The downside is that you do…

Tim, If I understand what you've been doing, you can get a Windows Event Log Count template working, but it takes a lot of trial and error on your part to get the 'script arguments' field configured to monitor the logs for the event you need to watch for. It was fine when you were asked to just look for a couple of events,…

In addition to what Andy said, you can get some additional information about that resource by clicking the Help button at the top right corner. http://www.solarwinds.com/NetPerfMon/SolarWinds/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm?context=SolarWinds&file=OrionAPMPHAppSummaryTopResTime.htm

Support confirms you've hit the character limit for that field. I'll open a feature request to allow longer filters. If it's not confidential, can you give me an example of a long filter you would like to use? A real customer example is always a good thing to have in a feature request.

3: In regards to using variables for displaying additional information on the map resource in Orion NPM, there's some documentation with examples on how to do it here: http://www.solarwinds.com/netperfmon/SolarWinds/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm#href=NetworkAtlasAdminGuide.4.27.htm

You're right. Microsoft recommends 30 seconds, so the threshold for this component should be 30000 milliseconds. Thanks for reporting this issue. We'll get it fixed. (dev, case 64194)
