  • Hi contracer. I wouldn't recommend it. For many reasons, it is best to dedicate your server to running only Orion NPM and other SolarWinds software. Can you find some other computer to use for your PHP webserver?
  •  I'm sure there must just be a few places in the Orion DB that I would need to just change which node it's pointing to, so where are these fields I need to change? I'm on APM 3.5. If that's all you need to do (reassign the application to a different node) then you are 100% correct, you can do it this way. Each application…
  • It's usage %. I opened the template for editing to take a peek at which Microsoft Windows performance counter it was reading, and it says it's the % Usage counter of the Paging File performance object.
  • Hi, Chuco. Orion APM 3.0 contains a Sharepoint Services (WSS) 3.0 template. According to that template, the Sharepoint Services Timer has the Net Service name SPTimerV3. I looked it up, and SPTimerV3 is the service started by running your OWSTIMER.EXE. So as far as monitoring that service goes, it is probably easiest to…
  • Hi, Steve. Orion APM 3.0 doesn't have a built-in Windows disk fragmentation component monitor at this time, but you can still get some fragmentation related information. 1. You can write a script that calls the DefragAnalysis method of the Win32_Volume class, and send one of the a defrag performance counters to Orion APM…
  • I was looking for the APM equivalent of the best case, worst case, show red at n failures, I but can't find it. Settings > Web Console Settings > Status Rollup Mode: Show Worst Status I also have some other templates which are unmanaged and the templates and their server name correctly show the blue cross, but the parent,…
  • D) I have domain controllers that just randomly become status is "unknown" and 5 mins later they are "up" nothing changes on network/servers etc, nothing is bottlenecked etc but just cant see what this happens and all the searching on this forum hasn't brought any answers. If it's a windows 2003 domain controller, install…
  • The instructions for configuring Apache server to show the server-status page are similar for Windows and Linux. Log on as an administrator and modify the httpd.conf file as described in the configuration steps. Did you do this already and run into some trouble in the configuration? If so, where do you think you ran into…
  • Not sure if I'll be able to help, but make sure the Oracle client was installed on the Orion APM server, and not on the Oracle server.
  • Yeah, that's totally a bug. It should be Statistic Critical Threshold Greater Than 5. I'll log it.
  • mstolle, can you post a screenshot of the alert you're trying to make where you are trying to use the APM component statistic as a parameter of the alert?
  • Byron, that's the old template from APM 2.0 that had to use scripts. That script in that template isn't as flexible as the dedicated Windows Event Log component monitor that got added in V3.5. This newer monitor lets you not only monitor any log you name, it lets you search as many logs as you want in one go. So, I would…
  • I'll explain what's going on, but first let me suggest an alternative solution: If you're using APM 2.5, check out the 'restart service' alert action, and activate that for the component monitor that's monitoring your IIS service. This alert action runs a program we wrote that knows how to remotely restart the services of…
  • One way to do this would be to add an Email Report Publisher and mail yourself one of your Configurable Reports once a day. If you receive the System Status report at the reporting time, ipMonitor is working. If you don't, then you might have a problem somewhere. Does this help?
  • Hi NinjaNerd56, 1. You can't install Orion APM without Orion NPM, but more RAM will help. Also, what operating system is Orion NPM/APM hosted on? If it's Windows 2008, consider a Windows 2003 server instead (there's a Microsoft bug in Windows 2008 regarding WMI that can make the entire system very sluggish). 2. Yes, you…
  • Search for "3.0" in the licensing page of your SolarWinds customer portal. If you can't find "3.0", it's not in your account and you'll have to contact customer service to have us correct the mistake (sorry!)
  • SP1 contains new templates, no bug fixes.
  • Willettea, 1. What's the error when the test fails? 2. How are you specifying the domain user name and password? You have to specify domain user names as: DOMAIN\Username so I'm just double-checking that you're doing that. 3. As a test, can you assign the "Windows 2003-2008" template to a Windows server node that…
  • Jon, that's a warning left over from EOC 1.0. If you have EOC 1.1, it is no longer an issue. I'll get the documentation changed to reflect this. I'm sorry for any confusion!
  • If you have a list of IPs, you can still use the wizard to add them. Follow the steps in the admin guide, paying particular attention to step 8: http://www.solarwinds.com/netperfmon/SolarWinds/OrionAGGettingStartedNetworkDiscovery.htm 8. If you already know the IP addresses or hostnames of the devices that you want to…
  • Bryon, You really ought to open a technical support ticket for this. They can help resolve your problem.
  • Hi Glenn. Exchange Server 2000 and 2003 template contains a monitor for processor queue length. For your reference, I documented all the template contents in the help system so that we could search for them. If we click the Search tab and search for processor queue length we find the above template.
  • Yup, there's a template that has an event log monitor. Here's the docs page for the template. Windows Event Log Count
  • Run the database maintenance. http://www.solarwinds.com/netperfmon/SolarWinds/OrionAPMAGRunningDatabaseMaintenance.htm Note: Administrative privileges are required to run Database Maintenance. To run the Database Maintenance utility from the Orion Web Console: * Click Settings in the top right of the web console, and then…
  • There's one KB article discussing a possible reason for this. Do you think this might be the cause? http://knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/kb/questions/670/ Orion Network Performance Monitor starts “missing polls” and/or CPU load on the Orion NPM server is unusually high. Problem Details This problem occurs when the System…
  • HTTP monitor, provide an Active Directory account as the credential. We recommend you not use your own account, just in case you mistype the password and you have an account lockout policy in place.
  • Firewall setting in the VM? You need port tcp/17777 open between Orion EOC and Orion NPM. Also, have you updated Orion EOC 1.2 to service pack 2? It's a required download for Orion EOC to become completely NPM 10.1 compatible. This service pack should be in your customer support portal.
  • I think your way is as equally valid as the current way. It's different, but the result is the same. I'm reminded of Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels: the Lilliputans cracked their eggs on the small end, and the Blefuscans cracked their eggs on the big end.
  • Also, "Guest Status" is the Solarwinds status of the VM node (up, down, and so on). In my opinion, the terminology in the pop-up text can be interpreted in too many ways, so I've asked our dev team to have a look at revising this in the future.
