Since this is a long term thing, I bought two 27 inch 4K monitors and a Dry Erase board for my new home office. I had to move out of my old office in the house to my Ham Shack in the back yard. The new office has heat and air conditioning, ham gear and solar power. RT

I've had long and complex discussions with two parts of a marketing department. Part one: The people that make the public website who make longer and longer URL's every day because of lack of planning. Part two: The social media people that want shorter URL's. I tried to implore them to work it out as a team and not engage…

Today we had a major circuit outage...and did not know it. I monitor the interfaces including this one but it is still Up - Up. It is connected to a telecom switch and the switch is up....but the network circuit on the other end of their switch is down. We have a different circuit at our other data center that took over…

The vendor DEV team has a service application memory leak. Left to its own, the service would consume enough memory to kill the system in two weeks. DEV said "Lets setup a task to restart the service every night". OPS said "Fix your code!". The manager said "Add the restart service until DEV fixes the code." Six years…

@"rschroeder" I remember when I was teen, construction workers would start their trucks in the winter and put their lunch in foil on the headers. A toasty and tasty lunch!

Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses. Joliet Jake: Hit it! Elwood: And remember, people, that no matter who you are and what you do to live, thrive and survive, there're still some things that makes us all the same. You. Me.…

Great questions..... If you have Availability and Integrity, does that mean you didn't get Confidentiality with it? So let's say the communications are reliable, redundant and up all of the time...that is Availability and that the data has a hash value to show it has not been altered that would be integrity. But alas it is…

To me that looks like information (Stars) on a background that allows the information to come alive. Remember that the stars are still there during the day but the light of the Sun washes the information away. RT

Growing up my family would go hunting. One thing we were all taught was how to find Orion's belt since it was always in the East (in South Texas during that time of year). Once we knew where east was, we could find our way around. RT

I have been working for the same company for 18 years and if it all works out, they will retire me 15 or so more years. So the CISSP is not for a different job...but the street creds that come with the CISSP are nice. My next certificate pursuit is the CompTIA CASP next, after that CEH. The plan on those is to self-study.…

Great question. One such service is Lambda AWS Lambda – Serverless Compute - Amazon Web Services . As they put it, "Run code without thinking about servers. Pay only for the compute time you consume." I think of it as "Functions as a Service". So there is a server at a cloud provider running your code....but the server is…
