I could not find any for battery failure, not for APC nor for HP.

Hi, am I correct that these monitors wont actually alert if the connection to the database is lost as the advanced alert engine relies on the database to alert? Is there any way to >alert< if those monitors go down or rather if the database connection is lost?

We are running SQL Server 2008 Enterprise I actually dont even really know what I am looking for, for one I would just like to pull anything just to get the response time so i can see if or when the database is slow. as we can also get a return value with the sql user experience monitor, some kind of health indicator would…

Hi cnorborg, #2 is already implemented in NCM 6.1, I used this feature just a few minutes ago ;-)
-
mhh, were you recently hired by solarwinds alterego? :P dont remember you havin the SW STAFF badge. not being able to log out or rather log in with a different user (to test out other profiles to see errors operators are talking about) made me not use pass through, otherwise I would use it!

We have had almost every team member asking about this feature too... Its just good if everyone can enter some notes about a node/interface/volume so others can look them up if there is some trouble with it.
-
+1 (although I have requested this feature before already... really dont like that you need to be an orion administrator and therefore have FULL rights only in order to be able to unmanage applications...)
-
that solution would probably fire also if the server would not be reachable via snmp anymore for a bit, right?
-
I think this is not done to avoid people putting several monitors into one... I do agree though that this would simplify things a lot and wouldn't mind every returned statistic to take up a license as well (as it would if you create a separate monitor) but it would for sure be another great "nice to have" which would save…

i wouldnt want anyone i wouldnt give access to the server give the ability to modify alerts. if it were to be implemented it would need some access management... at least something like being able to set the alert "folder" like with the reports
-
you cannot change this for the default/existing resource but you can try to re-write that resource in the report writer, e.g. like I stated above (the status LEDs work fine for me)
-
well, I know how to create/export a report as PDF and I know how to create a schedule to have it emailed... However I want it emailed as PDF (or jpg or whatever), not as HTML...
-
Thanks Marie! I dont know if you need use-cases for this... But I'll name one of them.... we have email stores going up and down, under certaint circumstances this can happen for a short amount of time and an eventlog will be written that the store is reachable again. if we dont have that functionality to make it go up and…
-
we would also love a monitor that just lists all processes and how much cpu and memory they use with historical data.... would probably be too hard but its very useful for example to monitor terminalserver usage and see which programs use the most cpu time
-
oh and btw... another reason why being able to use graphs in report writer... for me a very big reason actually... some "graphs" and tables are not really what I want/need. If I could just re-create the resource and make it looks exactly the same with report writer but filter more specific or add more details to it, that…

we have had our case open since september last year but have had this problem for longer and from posts here in thwack it looks like this has been a problem for a very long time. deactivating the alarm is a good workaround for the meantime which tends to be forgotten to do but we still need this fixed. we have also been…
-
Hi Andy, what exactly do you mean by unmanage? unmanage every device before rebooting the Orion server? thats a bit unpractical... you could deactivate that alarm before reboot and reactivate it after which is also unpractical. we have the same issue you are having and I have read that several other users here on thwack…

yeah... :P

yes, unfortely discards and discards caused by ACLs/firewall rules are not being differed by NPM...

Top 5 of new monitors? Well, I know User Experience monitors are generally something that people like to hear. I guess User Experience monitors for the Top5 most used applications would be it for us then... (I guess it is not possible for every application though) Our top5 used applications would be: 1.) Remote Desktop 2.)…

I agree... there should be at least one "stable" release every year, if possible two where the focus if fixing things and making the releases more stable... solarwinds does come out too early with new features, not having tested them... if thats communicated, thats ok... but if we present our managers the new features and…

We are having the same issue... after a change procedure we now have to "undo" the change, notify everyone that it could not be done because the IOS does not support it. The energy capable is very misleading, it should be differentiated which ones have an IOS that supports it.. also do voice gateways or switches without…

actually i just got off of the phone about 1,5hours ago... apparently SolarWinds has a lot of problems with the "Test Alert". For me I have never had any problems with it except now where it just wouldnt show the CustomPoller.Status when it was triggered by the test alert (it would trigger for some other custom interface…
-
I would really like to know the outcome of this and what the root cause for this would be... we have had too many issues with orion already which made orion silently stop alerting which is the worst thing that could happen in my opinion... no way to explain the value of a monitoring system against the argument that the…

wouldnt it be easy on your part to include the ability to show a finer granularity and show like 2-3digits after the comma? I can imagine that some managers ask for it...
-
we are running NPM and NCM together on https, nor problems with this (databases will still be separate, even after the merging... only the website will be integrated!). The only issue we are having is that after every run of the configuration wizard we need to re-configure https on IIS (set the port) and everytime a setup…

do you have a template for this that you can share? :)
-
It was created by IPSLA, does the retry happen in the background? Because I dont notice anything like that. If it does happen automatically I would like to have the option to turn that off/on manual.
-
or you could set up a rule in the syslog server for orion that triggers on all syslogs, as alert action you then set a forward to other syslog server :) EDIT:sorry, for some reason I thought you ment syslog... anyhow... same thing applies to the trap service from orion... just forward the trap as an alert action :)

well, the user I tried to login with was myself and I definitely have read access to the server... anyone got a clue on what could be the problem? we're currently investigating as well, if I find the problem I will post it here too
