Leon, 1) You will find it much easier to use all of Orions features if you rename your nodes in System Manager. Right click on the node once it has been added to system manager, and add a prefix to the node name. Since most functions in Orion are sorted alphabetically, this makes it much easier to manage and do searches.…

Phamat, check this post - the answer lies within... www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG

I don't see why it would be required. DNS should handle everything internal. You should be able to just uncheck the "use Netbios over TCP/IP" setting. You should also block UDP & TCP ports 135-139 outbound on your firewall. -=Cheers=- NG

Hey Mario, I'm not familiar with CLIPs, however in the Cisco world we use the following command on our routers to resolve this issue: rtr#logging source-interface Loopback 0 Not sure if this is possible in the Alteon world... -=Cheers=- NG

Try re-running just the "Install Web Site" part of the Install Wizard. Exit the wizard when this is done. You can also change the default views you see for node details using the Web Admin account and selecting "customize". Find the 'node details' page and select "edit". You can add/remove any chart, graph, gauge, report,…

Don Yonce posted something about this here: www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.aspquote: Posted - 03/24/2005 : 03:13:22 Eric, I now understand what you are needing. You want an Account to view all nodes with Customer #ABC AND all Interfaces with Customer #ABC. I setup a test server to try and discover a solution for this issue.…

You can display CPU & Memory in the same report, but not diskspace of network utilization. You can create any report to show daily, weekly, monthly and/or quarterly summaries of any data collected. In your case, you could select "last 30 days" for the report duration, and "summarize by week". This will display a report…

The website loading times are largely dependant on how many nodes, interface, volumes and or reports you have loading and displayed on the page. The web-server must poll the Orion DB for every piece of info displayed on the page. Hence the Ajax plug-in view where the grouped all-nodes view only loads the nodes when the…

That's good to hear Z. Using "public" for a community string is a very bad idea in the first place. Anyone can gain a lot of info from a device from SNMP, including users on your own network. The tools to do this are easy to get and install. I'm not amazed Micro$oft didn't do this sooner, as they seem to leave their…

Check the security tab on the server's SNMP service properties. Check if there is an ACL applied which limits SNMP polling to certain hosts. If there is, then add the IP or name of your EE server to the ACL so that it is allowed to poll the server. -=Cheers=- NG

I recently did our Cisco Inventory for our yearly maintenance using this format (pulled the NodeName, IP Address, SNMP RO Comm string & Machine type from Orion & just polled the following 2 MIBs: Node IP Address SNMP 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.5.0 1.3.6.1.2.1.47.1.1.1.1.11.1 Machine Type Name-122 10.0.0.2…

It took me a while and many tries, but I finally got the Excel spreadsheet add-in to work. I'm using Office 2003. The hard part was getting Excel to recognize the formula in the Cell. Here are the readme.txt instructions I received from Solarwinds Support: Directions: 1. Extract all files into the "..\Program…

See this topic: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp I believe it answers both of your requests. -=Cheers=- NG

Try creating a new report from scratch. I have found that sometimes a query can get messed up, and the only way to fix it, is to start over again. Try it first with a smaller time frame (last 3months, this year) and then keep expanding the time frame. What happens if you change the report to show the relative time frame…

Jon, Check your database settings in the NetPerfMon app. Sounds to me like you're keeping the daily statistics for 90 days - not 365 days. I keep mine for 415 days, which allows me to gather year end reports during the first few weeks of the new year. -=Cheers=- NG

!CAUTION! I had the same thing until I realized the following: No password (blank) means I can use your login name with no password to login at the old solarwinds login page, and get access! We put in a long complex password instead for each domain\user within Orion and NT pass-thru authentication still works correctly.…

Well after having used V7 for a week, I must say it is behaving quite well, after the initial issues with IIS. PROS: I have added custom properties for all nodes and have the grouping working quite nicely in the web page. I have created a number of new custom reports which display on the web page now. This is a huge…

Just an update regarding the grouping feature. Previously we were grouping devices by prefixing the nodename with the province and then the building or function. By creating web accounts with access to only certain provinces or functions, we were able to "group" devices in a crude manner of speaking. Now you can enter this…

I've been running V7 in Production for 2 days now. I haven't played around with the mapmaker yet, although it looks interesting. I'm still waiting for the remote console app for this, so I don't have to use PCanywhere or play around with the gif files. The web service (IIS) crashed yesterday. I restarted it, but the web…

Yes, Today's download is the Full Version. No more Beta! -=Cheers=- NG

Bryan, I have downloaded the Beta, bust have not installed it yet. This version is NOT for production deployment, only for testing, according to the included readme.txt file. I did however read through the Admin pdf. There is most likely more than this in the full release, but these were the hi-lights I could see right off…

Use percent utilization graphs instead.... -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no need to wait for answers~

My 3030 Concentrator shows drops on the Internet interface as well. I'm thinking the internet traffic which hits this interface and is being dropped by the filter-ruleset could be counted by the SNMP MIB as dropped traffic. In this case the traffic is being dropped legitametly. -=Cheers=- NG

Do a search in this Forum for "discard". There were some posts regarding discards in switches. -=Cheers=- NG

Hi Josh, Temperature & Voltage MIBs for our remote locations would be great. I suspect our Cisco equipment is rebooting due to overheating. I'd like to be able to run a monthly report on the cause of reboots at these sites. Power outage or overheating? Netflow data would also be a valuable MIB, as well as Cisco SAA info.…

This page explains how to do this for Network Interface Percent Utilization graphs or gauges, but the methodology is the same for Disk Volumes: Display multiple Interface resources in one page - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support Just select the disk volumes and gauges or graphs you want to display on the same…

Apparently the Wireless Networks app was in full display all over Microsoft's TechEd conference in Orlando Florida last week! My work mate just got back and mentioned the huge proliferation of 42" Plasma screens showing the state of the WiFi networks at all the various buildings in the Campus, using the Solarwinds…

Marlon, Thanks for the info, but I believe the discards seen in Solarwinds are Layer2 related. The info you have provided appears to be Layer3 IP routing drops/discards as opposed to interface packet drops/discards(switch of router interfaces). -=Cheers=- NG

I haven't noticed the LSASS problem since we upgraded the Orion server to Win2k3. It seems like the RDP sessions are handled better in this rendition of Windows, although it may be that my team is no longer leaving the System Manager app open, after repeated threats from me.<grin>.…

You might want to check the Interface Statistics polling interval. Each interface can be set individually on the Interface Details page in Orion System Manager. I would offer that a 5 minute interval should give you a good indication of the peaks (that's what I use on our busy links, 15 minutes for all else). Tip; you can…
