Dang...after being out of service for 2 weeks and playing catchup I answer one before watching all the video and get the big red X. I guess getting 11 out of 12 correct in one sitting is not too bad.

As jberkers42 said it us showing the SNMP uptime. So when the agent gets cycle you get a "has been rebooted" type of event. We reworded it to say, "server xyz may have been rebooted" Your best bet would be the results of CLI command to the server to get the uptime. But plugging that into Solarwinds summary could be a…

It seems half the time they use the contact us as a method to troll up email addresses for "targeted marketing aka spam" and site your contact us request as an opt-in to their marketing.

Hmmm...moderated again. My original post 6 hrs. ago is still pending

I learned a long time ago in a shop not too far away that the team that does the monitoring and notification for the companies IT enterprise must be involved with all the teams they support. We touch everything and have a unique perspective to the environment. In order to evolve your monitoring you have to be aware of what…

That's not quite right...but funny !!

Agreed... I wasn't calling doom and gloom. Kids learn from experience...and mistakes. Always have, always will. In today's world it is more crowded where some of the liberties we could take in the past just are not practical. I admit I did a few stupid things as a kid. I got lucky, luckier that I would like to admit a…

They become less nerdy in time...

That sales for you. By having different nomenclature they can spout off about having "this" that now one else has. It is all a marketing gimmick. Those that do the research will know the difference. I like to use that against the sales gerbils...it gives me leverage when I can prove that it is an apples to apples…

sometimes they don't know what they need to know...sometimes you don't either. Counsel strongly against "I want everything" (all the metrics) and "tell me everytime this happens" when they think it rarely happens without researching to see that it really happens all the time. In other words, try and steer them away from…

Ah...but I did go to the dark side this year and bought a harley.

Ahh..the joys of scripting. I used to write wrappers to update configs for 5000+ 5GT vpn appliances and a number of network devices. I had a basic wrapper script I used where I added specific commands for the devices provided by the LANWAN team. We'd test on a few test devices to make sure it worked as expected before I…

Good list there @"KMSigma.SWI" ! We (IT) are working from home so that those that can't are able to redistrubute into our building to provide every other cube social spacing. It would be nice to have a seperate thread on what members of Thwack are having to do in relation to this hype-train event.

I would agree references in the video don't line up quite with the options in the question. (a rose by any other name sort of thing). In the end there is maybe a point of view (perspective) the question is asked from that is not apparent.

what about backups ? Just because you have it or part of it in the cloud...to be successful you need to have backups and the ability to move it somewhere else without data loss in case of a catastrophic failure....

Hump day bump ! #bumpsquad

The fake news based on limited facts at best with a huge spin for personal opinion is so rampant these days.... Like anything else in IT, you have to validate your data, programming 101. If it doesn't fit the expected input, reject it and log it. garbage in - garbage out

Make sure all the SWUG attendees vote it up ! #bumpsquad

I think for any hosted solution for a company should have a site visit...back in the day before DSL, many ISP's were nothing more than a store front in shopping center with a T1 or 3 and a few racks of modems....

And you'll need a yeti to haul it around but I am sure bigfoot could sling it around as well. Empty weight 89 lbs. Certified bear resistant. 19000 cubic inches of capacity. 63.25"x24.5"x23.25"

While we the professionals understand the security practices needed, many other professionals in IT either don't or find they hamper their ability to work the way they are used to and therefore tend to open up windows of opportunity for the villains to get in.

Thanks for the post. You hit on a topic that I harp on and some don't get it...normalized data. If you refer to something 8 different ways, then all your reports and applications won't work correctly. You get inaccurate results or possibly duplication of efforts up to and including duplicate billing of customers as a…

Out in the rural areas there tends to be a lot more support and not as much taken for granted.

Good points here. Thanks for contributing.

There are but few of us here that have lived that term....

Ah yes...this is a thing. Agreed that SQL server will use all the memory you allow it to use. Again knowing how that parm is set as a default and the resulting behavior is important otherwise results may not be as expected.

Dang, drop out for a week and I miss bacon shoes ! Still trying to figure out how self driving cars are going to pull over to the right for emergancy vehicles.....
