Years ago in a previous life we had a tool that had a canned report(web page view) that was based on database entries in the data warehouse and perl that produced a HTML report. Well it was Cisco centric with regards to uptime of devices/networks. Well I needed one for the 5000+ vpn appliances at our stores that were not…

Maybe google needs to put some goggles on to help them focus on one messaging platform/app. Of course they may be targeting a different demographic with this new "app". The article did mention enterprise and I doubt they were talking about Star Trek or naval operations.

Also, please be sure and get the "remove before flight" cover off the pitot tube before you head out.

what wluther said !!

Turning photos into an excel spreadsheet data is pretty nifty...there have been times where that would have saved me an hour or three of work. of course whether or not there is any calculations or formula behind the cells will never be know.....

I am not a DBA nor do I play one on TV. Scripting is a tool for all disciplines and invaluable for monitoring in general as well as automating builds and doing repeatable tasks for the server admin or DBA. Yes, DOS still lives...the real DOS and not just a command line window.

The ability to hack a vehicle is not new, it was done a couple of years ago via an exploit in the wifi and the vehicles bus allowing them to install malware into the entertainment system giving it access to the vehicle. Being able to use the gps tracking app/device just goes a step further. Old school still works and is…

Sorry...just been bit by that one before..

yep, second survey today that does not give you the chance to opt out on receiving product info/calls.

Good one kong.yang ! I agree with silverbacksays regarding the demand for high speed links. Cloudification of enterprises just really kind of does notmake me comfortable...too many more opportunities for breaches.

@"yumdarling" I know what syslog level alerts are, the answers are related to a severity level to allow filtering of logged events or to limit the amount of noise by lesser events by excluding them from being logged. There seems to be a missing correlation from the situation as described and the answers provided. You seem…

c-rats MRE's are a totally different thing and not a renamed item. MRE is Meal Ready to Eat. They are more portable and lighter than C-rats. No more cans. They have a heat source that does not require fire. A more common name for MRE's are Meals Refuse Exit.

Another option to consider would be an email subscription based notification...especially in instances where your server does not have internet access.

Machine learning or not, any form of automation requires that someone reviews what it is doing from time to time, especially any error logs to make sure it is operating properly.

sometimes it is hysterical...really !

rschroeder, for the cold calls I don't honor them because you really don't know who is on the other end. All of our fund raisers are held at the department or at a local location in person so there are faces and representation.

ecklerwr1 key word is "Usually".

While useful for some things, I don't see tftp as being powerful and it most certainly is not secure. It is and was a means to an end...a way to simply upload a file or image (OS) to a device remotely for upgrade/patching purposes. Point a device at it, initiate the transfer and move along...reboot later. I did thousands…

njoylif...done. This is why we need the personal contact groups so we can set out own @bumplist group for those we all ways call on. https://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/7246

What would be good is a revisit on this topic...

What sucks is that a fire station welcomes visitors as we have a public facing to present. Yes, we have to turn people away when we run a call as we can't give them run of the station. Public Safety and security go hand in hand not to mention our gear is not cheap. In this case, they park where ever not thinking they could…

cloudy thursday morning bump ! We had started down this road with our cognos team...but it quickly ended up being a ticket for every minor change, every report to be created or run, etc....basically unworkable pulling an extract on a daily basis.
-
Ahh, the joys of the cloud.... The service is up and available...just not as responsive as you would like. Not their problem as the up and available part are met. Is it worth the savings ? Maybe, for now.
-
They want the "I've got monitoring" checkbox filled but don't want the bad news it can bring...your stuff is broke. Then they expect monitoring will alert them for every conceivable thing without building it.
-
In theory....money talks though. The principles though are simple....overload it with RF so it can't hear the controlling radio.

Morning bump !

rschroeder speaks the truth here. Having worked at an outsourcer before, SLA's can be a killer. Granted these days with the way virtual servers can be spun up to handle the load, there "should" not be as much of an issue outside of a major infrastructure outage. In the end though, is it right for your business ?
