That sounds similar to what I did years ago when taking on monitoring of unix systems syslogs. It is an appropriate methodology to steer a shop towards management by exception...reduce all that is noise to nothing and all that remains should be of interest. Even then with server monitoring be wary of the manager, director,…

It follows many of the other aspects of IT..there must be separation of duties so that things are handled appropriately and we don't have the too many fingers in the pie syndrome causing others to step on each other.

maria.bungau, Thank you for all the great work and effort put into supporting Thwack and the crazed Thwackers (like me) who seem to bug the community managers on a regular basis. You will be missed, although I do hope you do pop in from time to time to say hello in you are able to.

I'd hate to be pulling that trailer in that tiny car...not sure if it is a yaris or a smart (like) car...in any sort of crosswind. That last one looks more like a bag of air to me possibly in an old bug or beetle.

somewhere there was talk of a solarwinds sandwich monitor..it was a hot topic a couple of years back.

AppOptics seems to be a pretty nifty tool. I am liking what I see. But... think of the possibilities to go back in time, weeks or even months to see how changes have affected your apps. think datawarehouse !!! https://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/2637#start=275 For long term diagnostic work you need to keep the granular…

don't forget candied bacon, bacon jam. instant bacon (although the thought is good if it was good at all) is probably not a viable option.

Documentation....everything you mentioned must be documented and documented well so that it is 3 AM friendly and is your tool for auditing..especially when there are exceptions.

I agree with the points made...but regarding tools to monitor said cloud environment. They may have their own internal toolset which you may or may not have access to. It may or may not be something you have worked with before. You may or may not be able to interface or change configuration of it. So at the very least,…

On the topic of just writing stuff down.... There is the "official" documentation and then there are the personal notes. The personal notes I keep are in a simple text file because it can be read from pretty much any environment. It lists common "situation" and what to do and contains commands, results, etc. It then has…

Yeah Leon...you're supposed to take the thwackpack on events such as this !! The idea of the imodium type substance is a good one as well. Being I already consume a proton pump inhibitor the tagamet is not needed. But I would also recommend ibuprofin as a must have.

Ahh Bing. I just say no to Bing and disable it as a search engine right off the top. Sad thing is sometimes with updates Microsoft re-enables it. All the more reason to turn it off in my opinion.

Well said adatole ! The term I believe you speak of is proficiency. Much of it is muscle memory. Professionals stride toward proficiency. Pilots must maintain proficiency in various aircraft to maintain their ratings in that type of aircraft in order to be able to fly them.

We are off and running with the first green checkmark !
