Very good posting.... The firefighter in me is still trying to figure out what class of foam to use on a data fire !

Congrats idaman22 !!

Another team builds the servers...primarily by cloning and from a "golden" image. There is some automated inclusion to the monitoring side to add to Orion and remove. Most of that is via the deployment and obsolescence of CI's in our ticketing system. Granted it is not a perfect system, but it generaly works...

Good stuff, thanks for sharing with the rest of the Thwack community.

microsoft can't force you to upgrade if it is off the net. Keep it air gapped and you don't have to worry about patches, malware, botnets, viruses, hacking. The only thing you had to worry about with that older software was patching for y2k issues.

Keep the bump bumping it up !!

I just leveled up...24000+ points to get to the next for me.

Could be...but that is above my paygrade.

Can you post a link to the webcast such that people don't have to sign up/register ?

Well that is what it is...suddenly you are aware that you have gotten yourself into a bad situation by not paying attention. There is generally a pucker factor involved or the need to clean up afterward.

Great news !!

User calls to say their printer is not printing and is making a beeping noise... Arrive, look at it, ask where they keep their paper, reload printer and away it goes... The look of horror that they overlooked that possibility was priceless.

The bottom line is it has to run on hardware...somewhere which still has a physical capacity limit. Everything else is a big virtual shell game. It may be good for spinning up DR environments or virtual labs. The current trend of software defined everything to me opens many things to hackers, malware, virii and such.

While I agree to a certain extent I must also disagree. Regarding Leadership... There are a few very technical VP's here (one is a CCIE) so in conversations you can be as technical as you want. Now in mixed company (technical vs. non-technical) you should be aware and then moderate your jargon to fit the audience, I agree…

Film cameras have their own feel and character for the images created. I still have my first 35mm camera, an Argus C3. Also in film an Olympus OM-1 and an Nikon N80. The film cameras can shoot infrared with specific film and a filter not requiring the modification that a digital camera requires. On the digital side the…

I will say this...there is nothing like the sound of 4 large radial engines purring. The Confederate Air Force has a flying B-17 and from time to time it flies through the DFW area. One year I was exiting from Interstate 20 in Arlington head home from the office. I heard this sound that brought me back to the old series 12…

might need to check to see how much scotch he has left...

I read "Starship Troopers" decades ago in the mid 70's.. One of the great hooks that kept me reading Heinlein. My first was "The Door into Summer".

Oh...so Leon Adato is to blame for this one ? Good Job Leon Adato !!

Another thing about biometric data. If you have an injury it can be a temporary thing or if scarring is present it will change things and you have to wait for it to finish healing before it can be rescanned. Then certain family linked disorders can change things over time especially if you have a family history of…

There are always the issues with power...out of phase power, over voltage, under voltage, losing a single leg, etc. All of which can cause a drain on the UPS to correct the situation. Hopefully it switches over to generator and notification is made. In my current shop a brief power hit causes an hour run on generator after…

Yes...we need it. (linux, AIX, HP/UX, possibly solaris)

Great story of Netpath backing you up and pointing the finger where it needs to go.

true...

Another favorite phrase of mine: "Pictures or it didn't happen" Great tale or yarn or general story that needs pictures to back up the claims.
-
How would a patch know that is was bad and had to be punished by being backed out ?

Whats also interesting about the Pokemon Go thing is the scaling up of marketing SPAM for webinars and security related products. I've received no less than 3 last week alone on this one topic.
