Ahh...good post. Hopefully you have a correct and robust DNS...

Something that helps especially with an outside audit is to have an internal pre-audit to see what may become an apparent issue. Of course on that point you should probably have several small mini-audits internally over the year to make sure things are working as they should.

maybe if I had cisco at home...

Electric buses...neat idea and likely good for urban schools. Rural schools have longer routes and then when buses are used for school activities (football games, band competitions, soccer games, etc) Our local high school (rural here in Texas) can have pretty significant drive times for some games (hours each way). Of…

Agreed rschroeder ! But when you have people who don't understand the consequences and adopt the same attitude that they have at home that it can't happen to me, training isn't going to matter. "They know better and IT just gets in the way" mentality just opens pandora's box...usually nothing appears to come out so they…

Back when I was heavily involved with HP Openview…agents for non-production environments were 25% of the cost of a production agent. I believe the discount was the same for other products as well.

Shivers about my last experience with PCI about 10 years ago...but it got some of my best code out of me.

there is that....or imagine that size or larger group of hogs running up on you and your team out doing feeder maintenance because they heard the dinner bell (feeder being filled). Been there....

Ahh yes, America Off Line. I remember when you had to pay by the hour for dial up access. Some people's AOL habits were brutal to their bank accounts. Luckily I got a tech live gig with them so I got free access to everything for putting in 9 hours a week of online customer support. I think AOL's big thing besides…

wow...I missed this one. I have seen this several times in several shops. most everyone brings logs, graphs, and charts...usually to defend their domain. In some cases it was a real, "what happened" event and we are all digging into scenerios... RCA's should be a group effort to improve things while preventing incidents in…

Not my full time job...I have a team that manages it. I spend my time in meetings and coordinating the projects/team.

Throw a bunch of sawdust on one and they can no longer "stick their points"...

This is a whole lot of what was old is new again. Public cloud adoption....used to be time share on mainframes, then hosted websites, hosted servers in a managed services datacenter, etc. dataops...this seems like another term for data warehouse. Perfect for demographics, mailing lists, and a whole mess of other things.…

You have been KRACKed... another reason to use VPN with all your wi-fi sessions. One year I got the flu shot and my wife and kids didn't... the flu ran through the house except for me. It was more expensive that year because I had to fork out a chunk of cash on tamiflu to reduce their flu experience. They seem to have a…

There is/was big money in recycling those... Most companies don't want to take the time and effort to pull those out of the floor so they eire someone to do it. They get paid labor and then the get to sell the cable afterward for scrap copper prices after they strip all the insulation.

IPAM tools are great ! A single source for ip address assignment, DHCP control, and now ip address conflict tools. Good stuff.

Agreed it is a tough question, makes you think about what is being said in context....not to mention google can be your friend.

Congrats to blsanner !!

I know it has been suggested before, I also know meech has heard about this from me several times.

Out network team does use IP SLA to some extent, although I'd like to explore VNQM a bit more. Primarily ping and traceroute for problem determination and initial troubleshooting.
