now maria.bungau is teasing us....

rschroeder "It seems many people (myself included initially) mistakenly believed Gartner was a Tech Industry equivalent to Consumer Reports. Nothing could be further from the truth." I myself was in that same boat....back in the 90's. I became skeptical when I had the chance to start seeing the writeups on various…

It wouldn't be that much different than a microchip for your pets...smaller than a green pea. A little local (lidocaine), 1/4" incision, insert device, superglue to close. Procedure time less than waiting for the local to take effect. At least it's not inserted in the nasal cavity....

We are a blend of IT. We cross train and share oncall across a number of people so that we aren't on call every other week but the EOD allows us to keep current on everything...well most everything. SME's will be called as needed..

Inconceivable !!!

Bronx , you got the good and the bad part but you forgot the ugly part...
-
Over all I agree with this...in reality multi-tenancy can complicate things a great deal. In theory it should be simple to which I say "inconceivable" especially in a heavily siloed environment. The actual application stack or stacks may be similar but have totally different alerting requirements that may scale over many…

Been there... Actually it is more like: We are on this tool and between the time we interviewed you and your start we decided to migrate to that tool. The last person didn't document anything (Cliff Notes - this page intentionally left blank)... Good Luck!

Excellent !! You inclusion of this line was spot on: So why leverage monitoring as a discipline in the age of instant-apps? Solarwinds Developer Evangelist, Dave Josephsen, said it best in his IT Briefcase article – “Teams with the know-how to embrace metrics-driven development and scale their monitoring into their…

Also, getting events out of splunk into other tools for notification is not as streamlined as it could be....in the end it is a trap.... a good old SNMP trap.

The challenge here is if they change a common view or delete something that affects other users. Now if they had their own copy of a view to play with such that if they hork it up it won't affect others and a base can be restored for them...then I am for it. With that said...most of the users (not counting the engineers or…

It would be nice to be able to use a home DVR to log your ring doorbell video on and not have to pay a monthly subscription fee for the privilege of them hosting it for you. They say it is secure and nobody has access to it....based on various other companies these days I just don't see that being true.

I am keeping my fat fingers away from a windows tablet...nothing good can come of it.

Auditors are your friends...they help you to be sure you are compliant with various policies, requirements, etc. Granted most people see them as the enemy. In many cases, a number of the auditors I have dealt with don't truly understand the tools and technology. There are times where they want to wiggle down into things…

Nifty, by signing up to BrightTALK, you give them license to provide your contact info (possibly in the form of sales or marketing) to other parties. In order to restrict that you must jump through hoops via snail mail or maybe email, but no online form. Thee are other items that should be noted in…

of course with appropriate firewall and breakwater rules in place.

write it up and we'll get the #bumpsquad rolling on it !!

It was quite tasty...the tenderloin was fork tender. The bacon while not crisp, was a bit tougher as it cooked at a much lower heat than if it was fried on the stove.

I think someone is trying to say John is stoned....

We need to get wrapped around this to support devops spinning up new servers....
-
As much as part of me screams no...I think relaxing the time periods before a change is required would be acceptable. Allowing a small change in the password may be workable...

Sounds like a future customer....at least you aren't in my response district

The mantra is to use your powers for good... many RFID chips can be spoofed. Just look at your proximity access badge that most companies use. Then comes the later part of the article about tracking..it's bad enough our phones and tablets track us. Heck even using Orion, you can track someones phone on the wireless lan and…

I have found that circuits through multiple vendors with different points of ingress to the building/datacenter tend to provide the better redundancy needed for availability purposes. The probability that a single fiber cut will impact more then one vendor is fairly low. But remember, backhoe joe works around your building…

Thanks...

it is possible...virtually. Now with some of the larger ones, they can carry a 5lb payload but then you are getting up into the $2500+ quadcopters like the inspire. Not sure what the phantom 3 and 4 can carry....but you can get a flir camera for them...it blows the doors off of what the police department helicopter with…

Ouch...

what is just as bad if not worse than just a snapshot for a backup, is when you have a number of un-committed snapshots and end up with corruption.

I saw it and thought ...NO they didn't but they did !! Then I watched the video and was smiling as Leon explained it.
