I feel off-prem requires the same tools as on-prem..just because it is running on someone else's computer doesn't lessen the requirements to know your stuff is working and how well is it working. Is it meeting SLA's? Is it working well performance wise at the off-prem location but drags locally to your shop? How would you…

Instant bacon appetizer....enough said. I hope it was at least half as good to eat as it looks. OMG, it's full of socks !! I've always known there were miniature black holes roving around randomly pickup up things like socks, tools, as well as various other items and depositing them elsewhere. BTW, washing machines and…

those plastic covers mean nothing to some people. We had a small epo switch on the wall away from the door under a plastic cover with a large sign around it. The contract person who was mopping under the raised floor hit that button to exit (not the red exit button beside the door) effectively shutting the down the data…

community bump for awareness.

Good posting. While not a network guy, I do find these topics interesting.

I'll stick with Texas... We have enough blowing sand where I live. Can't keep the dust off the motorcycle. Then if it is pristine, I get covered in bugs at 05:30 since the lights attract them in the dark and being in a rural area there are fewer lights to draw them off. But we do have the occasional grapefruit and…

If you think that is bad...try untangling a spaghetti trap of bus and tag cables for a mainframe... They can be up to 400 feet long. It takes a pair for every peripheral. There is a weight component that cat5/6 does not have. You can't run the cable and then crimp on the connectors. This is a fairly neat small install:…

many times the latest greatest fad is an old fad that has been pulled out of the closet, dusted off, and given a fresh coat of different colored paint. Then it is purported to be the next greatest thing since sliced bread after glossies have been made to fit the old idea into the current stream of thought. What was old is…

mrs.alterego Understood...that's why you get the big bucks. If it were easy then anybody could do it and then where would we be ?

sounds like uber is headed for an "Uber Fail"...

We had a vendor mopping under the raised floor in the datacenter. The Exit had a big red button by the door to release the maglock. One of the vendors employees instead went to the wall 15 feet away to where there was a small red button under a clear plastic cover that was labeled Emergency Power Off. Yep you guessed it,…

Agreed rschroeder If you look at all their course content, there is a part 1 class for python as well. I am thinking about doing both.

Interesting... What sort of pricing model do they have ? Still think it's for focused on small businesses...

Ahhh...the joys of a managed service. Convenience at a price. You save monetarily but pay in latency.

Not a big fan of SAP. I know several big companies that went SAP and both are still incomplete..one of which is after 16 years.

I agree...I have worked for shops where unless it was in the magic quadrant is was not even considered... Sometimes it takes much research to determine if the architecture of the tool allows it to do what you need in a manner you can scale and support.

I suspect the usage is higher....and that is not counting gifs or other visual expressions of creativity.

Vacuum well ? That was high tech. Many of the first tapes I loaded were manual thread...

Interesting... besides, EMC, HP, and NetApp, I recognize nutanix from a bunch of marketing spam. Looks like I need to investigate more so that I know more about the technology. Thanks for posting this....

still need it...

If you have one and only one monitoring source then you can have a single version of the truth. Likely in most shops, while you may have a single official monitoring tool, there are others various people use to either refute or substantiate the data from the official tool....so can there really be one version of the truth ?
