" Ah, firefighting. I used to have a boss that LOVED being a firefighter, to the point that he seemed to invent fires everywhere he went. Then he'd fan the flames, get a raging inferno going and swoop in to put it out. Then he would repeat the process on some other project." In the firefighting world we call that an…

I'd like to turn some of the feral hog population here in Texas into bacon....and ham, and other tasty items.

Once you let amazon in it is hard it get them out. They want to be the center of all marketing and in the center of your house. Between Amazon, Facebook, and not to mention google, they have the ability to control or influence all aspects of your daily life for good or bad. Amazon is already in the center of some unfair…

Govern and document kind of fall together. You need a service catalog to document and define what you are collecting and later alerting on as well as the consumers of the data and alerts as well as how they are presented. This allows you to see who and what has to change when things are updated/changed as well as Audit has…

I took all three elements in one sitting (GROL + radar endorsement). It made the extra test look stupid simple. I may go back for the GMDSS endorsement as well..just to fill out the ticket. Then I will have to consider refreshing my morse code skills. The 5 minutes of perfect copy is far above the 5wpm I passed for my…

I agree on the password complexity requirements getting to be crazy. Regarding audit...as mentioned above. Never helps to do your own best effort team work and then internal audit first to get a lay of the land. Then follow it up by a third party audit to catch any outliers before you engage in any formal audit process.

then there was the coco, the tandy color computer circa 1980-1991 that was almost a laptop that you connected to your TV for video.

Great stuff ! I just need to find some time to read the books you referenced above. Networking is a wonderful tool, especially if you have a local users group you can make use of...but then other resources such as Thwack can also provide some level of networking. It just depends on the level of information you need...

Okay from my end of things being that most geeks and engineers are caffeine achievers, I opted to start with an upgrade to my coffee grinder. So I got a conical burr grinder. I got a few other odds and ends to help out with other hobbies, a bench rest and bag, reloading dies, books, and parts to finish out a build I am…

Sounds like the Fed's are behind the curve...tools have been available to do this for over a decade. BTW, any marketing research by Gartner I see I immediately apply a few pieces of rock salt about the size of a softball......

Standardize the environment = normalized data For example if you have 8 different ways to name a server, then automation becomes more challenging and the risk of issues increases.

Hmmm... Plan for the worst case scenario to prevent it from happening. I am not sure this is possible. A worst case scenario is one you can't mitigate or recover from. You can reduce its impact to some degree. You can theorize about some situations you could be in...but likely, until you have lived in the cloud some time…

I assume they turned off the auto-suggest and auto-correct....right ?

Coolness !

I bet it got cool. NC coast in March, the atlantic is in the 40's and 30's. A full wetsuit with hood, boots and gloves are the minimum. I did some early pool work as part of my diving cert with just a wetsuit (no hood) and thin by wetsuit standards gloves. We poured warm water into our wetsuits before we hit the…

It takes a little research and digging.

BYOD devices are on their own network..a guest wireless network that has no access to the primary. Access is password protected and it is still firewalled and restrictions to various sites still exist...

NC? What part ? I lived there for 9 years and now go back annually to visit some high school friends.
