There was a time not that long ago...oh wait maybe it was, when smoking in the data center was okay. My how time flies over the decades...

I don't think Austin deals with ice that much so the kind hearted folks decided to put some sand out (probably all they had) as a token gesture of good faith and to CYA for insurance purposes.

Free internet..probably after we get the flying cars we were promised.

Kudo's on all the work that I know has gone on in the background. I am sure there will be some growing pains as a result but we will be here to perceiver!

Wow...put a bunch of the greatest cliches in the industry and debunked in one posting !! adatole, your thoughts and perspective as usual are well put !

Somewhat tricky but I liked it. Put into perspective the possible answers to see how they fit the question and the hints provided.

zennifer That's not a cheesy grin...it's the real thing ! Yes the Thwackpack is great quality as is the messenger bag. maria.bungau, mrs.alterego, and DanielleH all need a round of applause for their great and continued hard work to make this such a great place ! There are many others behind the scenes as well....

Glad to see the use of velcro strips for cable management. Zip are great but just not quite the best choice....especially when you have Jim-Bob and his handy bowie knife trying to cut a zip tie to add or remove a cable.

I don't see how a cloud provider is workable in a full restore situation...so much is based on delta's or changed data. Where is your weekly full backup ? Partial backups after a weekly full should get you through most situations....but you still need immediate access to a full backup. Crucial data needs to be backed fully…

It is funny how many shops ran from the mainframe in the interest of distributed systems as was the current buzz phrase of the mid 90's...and are now figuring out how to migrate back...or other shops are actually looking at a mainframe for raw power rated in MIPS. They had virtual and SAN working decades before the…

What is disconcerting for some is (for an uncapped AIX environment) that you can be running over 100% cpu and everything is fine.

When you get 7 it'll be "Doh !! " moment

As you mentioned security these days is behind the curve and always trying to catch up. But the first step as you also stated was to be aware. If you aren't aware you can't take steps to defend. I am looking forward to the other aspects of SOAR.

Done.

Sounds like dependency mapping, understanding the physical makeup of your environment, and correlation of events. Asecklerwr1 says, event correlation is more of an art than a science.

@"sturdyerde" get an "on air" light like for broadcast radio stations or even what some Ham Radio operators use. Put a switch next to your headset or maybe even set up a smart plug so you can tell Alexa to turn it on/off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDg-hTP9V2M
