I'm just waiting for Joe back-hoe operator to cut the fiber of a cloud database provider. If you are lucky it gets routed through a different carrier with increased latency provided not all carriers use the same point of ingress into the building....

While I would assume Amazon had an enterprise or global sort of Oracle license, I will admit Oracle is still expensive. Of course moving everything to their own hosted services is also a big marketing move.

It depends....if you have to coordinate events across multiple time zones across a continent or hemisphere, UTC is the way to go but understanding the offset to local time is important too.

I am not sure it is possible to code something that is not vulnerable these days as there are so many parts (code, firmware, hardware, OS, etc.) that you have no control over. Sometimes it is the combination of things that allow for a vulnerability to exist. Then when it comes to testing you have to do full regression…

just like preventing general theft....they are looking for targets of opportunity. There are a few that take on the harder targets as a challenge...so don't make it easy for the cyberthief. If they are going to get it, make them work for it.

That is the purpose of the data warehouse...have all the data available for offline reporting... Reduces traffic on the production database for the large reports that don't have to use current data..

As I understand it, some of our new SAN may be flash. OTOH, our Orion bare metal DB server is all SSD so it is plenty fast.
