Actually, by monitoring windows logs, you can see and alert on things within Orion. By integrating tools of this sort potentially allows you to correlate events across the environment into single events in your "single pane of glass". This is especially true of application events that indicate issues with the application…

electric mail trucks, interesting idea, maybe a hybrid could be considered. I know a number of rural routes the mail carrier uses their own vehicle purpose built with right hand drive. Jeeps are common for this out here. Regenerative braking would make good sense for partial charging purposes. Even a clean diesel-electric…

The phrase "If it's not is the Ticket, it Didn't Happen" falls back to documentation...in the ticket that is. So when you get the to RCA and examine everything in the ticket, that is the record of everything done or should be. Audit then gets a whack at it too....

Another aspect of the mapping that I didn't see mentioned and varies upon business type and location. For international companies that operate in various countries, some data may not be able to leave that country. So that may significantly impact or alter a mapping especially if the proper people were not involved in the…

In some ways you have to approach it from the other direction too...do you own penetration testing. Think like the hacker trying to get data or dropping malware. You have to use different perspectives otherwise you'll miss more things.

Ahh... The cloud. It ranges from the nice puffy fair weather clouds, to thin wispy cirrus clouds, to big 'ol SLC's (Scary Looking Clouds) some with rotating wall clouds.. In IT as some have mentioned before there are places and times for it or not depending on the datacenter, application, service, etc. For a ITSM help…

Granted that things have evolved, but the CLI is a lightweight interface that requires little bandwidth to utilize, and can be interfaced with a dumb terminal and a serial cable or any laptop or tablet via a local network without issues with browser version/java issues. One of the signs of the times is the fact that modern…

I have not worked with those products specifically. In a past lifetime I provided similar tools to provide mass updates via perl to vpn appliances and switches at 5000+ stores. The network team would provide me with the "approved" commands and I'd write a perl script to update all the devices beginning with the lab stores…

the cloud will not make our jobs obsolete...but rather a combination of more interesting and challenging.

Ahh, many of the things I have been ranting about for quite some time now

Sometimes it is not the matter of asking the right questions but getting the others on the project to understand "why" the question is relevant and the impact if it is not related to an area they are intimate with. For example it could be a limitation that is brought out by asking the right question but others might not…

Hmmm... My first thought based on the subject was going to be a 168g Sierra Matchking inside of 800 yds... Based on the body and the fact that I am not so much in the helpdesk business, but rather support them by providing info about the environment. Having used Webex to help support or get support is a viable tool, while…

@"TerryHarding" but you still got the points and it still counts toward being in the drawings at the end of the week and the end of the mission.

This holds true for all of IT. It is the amount of access on a company's network via personally owned devices that is a big concern. I would hope that access is only via a guest or some other network and not the main production network...

Still not quite as good as it could be but useful in some instances.

The answer is not "printed exactly" as listed. There is a reference to it that takes a little cognitive reasoning to figure out. Little meaning about 2 seconds to understand the reference. It is not a match the phrase and there it is question.

Well crud, I failed to get the letter of the day when the congrats screen popped up.
