I see one thing missing....document the entire thing so newb's coming on board can understand it. Plus when things go awry and they will, you can refresh in your mind how it all fits together, especially at 3AM.

I don't trust cloud providers because they don't and won't ever have the same perspective as to the value of your data or the impact that service has for your business and it's ability to make money on a day to day basis.

it has been decades since phone calls were a dime. Now-a-days you likely can't find a phone booth...and if you do, there is likely no phone there.

for some people backup and restore is their DR...with a license key update...and hopefully not over a weekend with no support available. even in a cloud based backup, we had a local repository for the more immediate restoration needs...it was also replicated to our DR site. Granted this was a local (general geographic…

AWS Lambda...the article says it is serverless, I call shenanigans. It is just somebody else's server that is involved.

The stage is set and the work is well on the way. Currently we have tracking cookies and such to serve up "appropriately targeted" ads via google and others. There are pieces in place to send marketed notifications to people in certain parts of town for marketing purposes already. I see it as a slippery loop and the…

The "Infector of Things" issue is certainly here to stay and will continue to be a thorn in our sides. As mentioned before, set your standards to which the infectors must adhere to in order to mitigate as much exposure as possible. Then stick to your guns and be ready to yank their plug if mayhem arises.

Not sure this classifies as saved the day...but it saved the company a bunch of $$$$ in penalties when the company was going through PCI audits for certification. Back in a former life the company I worked for was working on their PCI compliance right after we finished up SOX compliance fun. We had over 5000 5GT vpn…

Even if something is software defined it still has to run on someone's hardware. As always, when there is a mix of people, contractors, companies involved in implementing anything, there are more moving parts and opportunities for something to be missed thus opening you up for downtime or a breach....

Counting down the days....

A classic it is....that is one of the novella's in Heinlein's book "Time Enough for Love" where the book introduces readers to the character Lazarus Long who shows up in various other books over time.

Automated or not, you still have to review logs to see if the automation encountered a problem or if what the automation is interacting with has changed.

understood....just a random thought on a sig line. But, yes the need is there to implement this idea.

The remote polling with store and forward is good. Although I am glad to see the agents now available especially for servers in the DMZ.

I will validate the link provided by @"gcp" and @"tsadler" will take you to the survey and after taking the survey if you return to the mission page and refresh it, it will show the activity for the day is complete.

The main thing about dashboards is they are a high level view into the status of the machine whether it is the enterprise, a specific environment, a business service, or a particular machine. Its function is to convey that everything is running as expected, running not as preferred, there are problems, or it is down. There…

Not only where it is going to, but where it is coming from, from within your network in relation to where it is going to.
