That was probably the only mission I was unable to complete...

Dang...back to the basic first program I keyed in back in the 70's on a TRS-80 model 1.

While not an audio purist or what I would consider more than a weekend audiophile when I can get away with it, I tend to listen to a fair amount of music when head down into work especially coding at the office. Being in a cubicile farm, headphones are a must.... Even then most "amplifier" sections of a laptop or pc tend…

Congrats to the winners as well !

Back when I was in an OpenView shop we would alert on duplicate ip notifications.... I also ran a perl script a couple of times a week that took all the node ip's and names and did a forward and reverse lookup producing a report that showed the discrepancies. It helped us to keep and maintain a correct DNS.

byrona I understand your point and agree on looking up device information. Depending on what sort of automation you are building that may or may not be relevant. I think being able to look at the name and know the following is more relevant.. server, network device, F5, etc prod, dev, dr, SIT, model, qa, test, what ever…

I doubt Phishing involves catch and release.

.....I got nothing. You are probably right. Some people just don't get the fact that caffeine makes IT go round.

AIX LPARS opens up its own can of worms...especially if the LPARS are un-capped...then running at 200% CPU is a valid state.

We have an alert that watches for the last boot time to change and we set the text to what we want in the alert actions.

In a previous life the datacenter was under the parking deck....so when it rained it leaked. At one point we had plastic tarps suspended between the suspended ceiling and the concrete above to channel the water into larger catch basins...of which we would have to get up onto ladders and use a shop vac to remove the water…

We used kiwi for this at a previous life...

A Remedy, it never was that. Upgrades were a huge forklift upgrade if you had a bunch of customizations to it. Search never worked well and you could never search on fields you needed to search on.

Interesting...although if a company is wanting to keep databases on-site, even a hybrid solution for reporting, HA, or DR, effectively moves a copy of it offsite. On the other hand...it may be a good repository for long term data storage for a data warehouse.....allowing for offline reporting and capacity planning. That…

I hear you....they took away our bunn based coffeepot brewer and put in a packet based (not TCP or even a keurig) which only makes about a 6oz cup. Now the line queues up for people to make individual partial cups of coffee..... Now I can't even bring in my own coffee to make a pot of my own blend (XXXX strong) to pour…

we are at 191 and counting...

I was speaking of the lead walls... I doubt even in the future they have altered the laws of physics and the mass of lead.

From what I have seen if you don't refresh the webpage after they make a change you won't pick up the change thus it appears to still be broken.

The virtual traffic jam.... This is so bad and exploitable on so many levels. You want to herd traffic through a certain corridor or route? Create your own virtual traffic jams in several other areas to "direct" traffic through the desired corridor. Lets see, this could be marketing so you drive by a certain series of…

I had actually presented a cheesy method that works at a SWUG here in Dallas a couple years or so ago. The challenge we have is some of our normal maintenance windows aren't at the same time every day and they are not server based but rather application based which can span numerous servers. My cheesy solution was to set…

Yeah...what is funny is that we are starting to use them on fireground operations. They are hugely useful on grass fires especially when the fire ground spans multiple acres and or property lines. I suspect in these cases people are looking for youtube material. What will be really bad for them is if they get charged with…

Agreed, the example screenshot lists 1 more item than the list of services below. The number of items in the example matches one of the answers, but the number of services listed below that does not.

agreed...once trust is lost it is 3x or more harder to regain.
