@"00shep" We need all the bumps we can get...

Good write up scuff. Yes they are a thing...both good and potentially bad depending on how implemented and how utilized. Not every social media site that uses bots lets you know that you are interacting with a bot. On that note, they can be annoying and can pull data from "conversations" into directed ad's especially with…

Ah yes, the days of the tape ape's. Nothing like running around with round tapes stacked up your arms past the elbows pulled for a job that is fixing to run.
-
still waiting on my email from G2 so that I can do a review.....
-
we used to use spud guns to practice bird shooting...you can get them to do amazing things in flight by cutting them in half and loading inline or cutting an odd angle on the leading edge. Lots of fun out in pastures where cows graze... no "clays" on the ground and the taters are bio degradable.

So much data, so many clouds, so many computers you have no control over.

Thanks 00shep ! I started this bandwagon 3+ years ago and have gotten some feedback from Solarwinds over the years. I know part of updates in the last year regarding web based alerts and better granularity have come from UX sessions and pointing to this idea. Thank you to meech and the rest of the UX folks for listening.…

will have to check it out.

Big bump for June!!
-
Excellent topic...while we have it I have not had the time to fully explore it.

I think the biggest thing about automation is CONSISTENCY.

In a past life we had to look at store networks to see is a rogue WAP had been installed. It wasn't practical to ping sweep 5000+ individual networks so I went at it from a different approach...we knew what IP's were assigned to approved devices and wrote a perl script to query the store switch for it's arp table..anything…

Good points. Keep it simple and standardized.

@"petergwilson" At the top of the browser click on resources and then community announcements. To the right you will see "actions", select tht and you will have an option to subscribe. This should let you know when new annoucnements for the community come out not just missions. If you want something more specific, you can…

Wow..just think of the voltage drop over the 22g or smaller wires. While LED's are getting more efficient, fluorescent is still a better bang for the buck at this point in time. The higher output LED's do put out a fair amount of heat. If you ever look at some of the higher output LED's, they have heatsinks and airflow…

Excellent...I so wanted to attend.

Survey says.....

Congrats nowell !!!

you never need to until that one day when things align just right...taking their word for it is never good enough. The contract likely has a clause that indemnifies them in case things go awry. Then the salespersons word is good for what ?

Nifty the autonomous USPS trucks will be driving through my area....Dallas traffic is nasty at time, especially up near the DFW airport where there is a big postal distribution center.
-
SysAdmin day bump for the house...data warehouse that is.
-
or worse, lock you in....

Hmmm.. I am only seeing 5 W's 1 what 2 why 3 who 4 when 5 where 6 ?

A challenge I see with VDI is problem resolution...it is becoming the norm to re-image a desktop installation whether VDI or not rather than fix the problem. For those users that have to install specific applications, upgrades are an issue rather than just pointing them to a new "installation", but for ghosting and other…

Automation is the goal but it is not fire and forget. Automation has to log what it does and let you know when it has a problem. You have to look for the problem notifications and act. You have to check the logs on a regular basis to look for exceptions...this to can be automated to strip out all the known good stuff and…

Sticky hoods....yeah...no. Excel on linux ? Oh yeah and I think we could sell tickets to watch adatole's face...or it should be taped in a Solarwinds lab session !! As usual sqlrockstar, you bring up some interesting and thought invoking articles !!
-
I can't believe it hasn't been bumped yet this morning bump !

For some.... Documentation: This page intentionally left blank.

I will be getting at least one azure related certification...job requirement, plus learning more about IBM websphere (MQ) in general.
-
I think you needed to read everything in relation to the question...I believe you missed an important point.
