Thank you.

I have taken quite a few on-demand classes from the Customer Portal. I like that they add new content pretty much every month. Some of the training is good some not so much. They ask survey questions after you complete a course (complete section of videos) and it seems like they make minor improvements based on comments…

Day 11 question - Is it a trick question or did writers consistently misspell SNMP as SMNP in answers?
-
If you answered the May 12th question when it was originally messed up (only A-D answers instead of A-E), do you get to re-answer the question after question was fixed? I answered the broke question before it was corrected.

Based on how I grew up, I never understood the movie Office Space and didn't care for it. 20+ years later, I'm working as a contractor working with the US Air Force and now it makes complete sense.

No one will probably read this, but I have a correction. I retook the NPM exam yesterday and passed. Important thing to note is PSI may have improved their process for entering the test. I failed the video scanning at the beginning of the test. After first fail, a live operator answered through chat and allowed me to scan…

I have a few of the Fresh Faces G.I. Joe guys in OG G.I. Joe size. They were the "Hall of Fame" series figures. I liked the 3 3/4 size better,

Does anyone have evidence or a chart showing the financial worth of an SCP certification specifically? It’s fairly easy to estimate the financial worth of having certifications provided by Comptia, Microsoft, LINUX, Cisco, CISSP, etc. I’ve never seen a chart that shows financial benefits of having an SCP.

You could get an S or M shirt. Those sizes have been available all year.

Not the best solution, but you could potentially create a Custom Table widget. If a cert is 90 days out or less, It will display in the table. This query only pulls from SAM but it seems to pick up both Windows and Linux (agent ran) stuff. You might have to join tables/enties from VMAN or other modules. Again, probably not…

I'm not sure about APM, but for Custom OIDs I've built, I go to our SQL server. I open "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio", select our database, and go to the Custom Poller section. I get my NetObject IDs from there. There is also an "APM_Application" section. It lists some NetObjects in that section. You might find…

Do you happen to have/be using SLAs?

Do you have IPAM? You can create a DHCP alert for utilization if you have an IPAM license. It might already be there. Look under "Alerts & Reports" > "Manage Accounts" > "Action Manager." & "Execute program: IPAM ..." IPAM\SolarWinds.IPAM.EventLogger.exe "DHCP Scope ${N=SwisEntity;M=FriendlyName}'s usage has risen above…

Are you still experiencing issues? If not, what fixed the issue.

There is a different option you could pursue. You can build a custom page & tables where temperatures are listed as numbers and numbers change colors when parameters are meant. Someone would need to monitor but you could build a page like that.
-
What Alert are you trying to get? You can "monitor" reachability with ICMP, but that probably isn't what you want. Using Log Analyzer and some other log functions, you can import/read firewall logs and alerts from SolarWinds. You MIGHT be able to create alerts off of those logs. I don't know how to do that though and would…

Have you looked at https://mibs.observium.org/ ? They have some Nimble OIDs there.

Dumb question. Are Microsoft Patches sitting on any of your servers (Orion Server, SQL Server, Addition Web Server, or Additional Polling Engine, ETC.)? Window Patches shoot me in the foot constantly. Implementing the patch isn't an issue. The problem is patches sitting on my server prior to implementing the patch and…

From your posting, it sounds like you're getting random CP errors on various devices, but not all devices. Odd question. Are all your nodes build with the exact same hardware/model types? Here are some examples of problems I've had throughout the years where minor differences between devices shot me in the foot regarding…
-
Check out https://mibs.observium.org/. The site lists Arista MIBs. I can't provide you the specific OID because MIBs/OIDs vary depending on Arista's product type/model number. If the OID/OIDs on Observium don't work, contact Arista directly. If device is a newer model, they may not have posted MIB yet.

It depends on what you are trying to do and/or desired result for what you want to see displayed. I'm more of a networking guy, so forgive my server wording below. Wording might be a little wrong/misused, but the concept should be understood. Without VMAN, you need to attack it as at least two separate items 1) Physical…

Looking forward to them. Will you be teaching any again?

Do you need to create a report or would creating a view be sufficient? A view listing that info wouldn't be difficult to build. For OOB reports "interface report" will tell you max BW per interface (I.E 1gb, 10gb, ETC.) Sadly it doesn't list SFP Manufacturer or Type.
-
Stuartd, I agree. You can get the stats by using SNMPv3 and ensuring interfaces and selected in "list resources". Additionally, you can add widgets to the node page which will show delay, loss of packets, QOS ques, etc.Not all of those feature appear based on the node template you select when initially building/adding the…

Yes, we have similar issues but we may not have the same issue you are experiencing. Our problem occurs when patches have been pushed to Windows Servers; however, patches aren't fully implemented because a server restart is required for patching processing to complete. We have hundreds of servers that get patched and need…

Is it an SQL statement or an SWQL statement you are trying to add? SQL and SWQL are different and don't like each other if you try to mix them. I'm not sure which version of SolarWinds you are using, but older versions have two radial buttons at the top of the scripting box. If you are running an SQL query, click SQL. If…

Try this: 1) Click: Dashboard >>> Settings >>> All Settings 2) Click: Mange Alerts 3) Click: Action Manager 4) Select (check box) the Action/Alert you are looking for and Click "Edit Action" 5) Expand "Execution Setting", Check "Repeat this action every X minutes until alert is acknowledged", Select minutes desires, and…

Does your network team place descriptions on their switch ports? If you're using a Cisco device, do the network guys receive a response when they type "show interface descriptions". If your network guys give their switchport descriptions, you can run a report for interfaces and it would tell you what each interface does.
-
1) Check out website https://mibs.observium.org/. Look for your server model and if an OID exists for the specific part/item you want to monitor. Use UDT or Device Studio and create a poller for what you want to monitor. 2) Do you have the VMAN module for SolarWinds? Load the virtual server into VMAN (it integrates into…

Sara, Is the new exam or platform corrupted or broken? The newest "HCO-Network Monitoring" test doesn't load in PSI. You can be scheduled for the test, your computer passes all of PSI's pre-test checks, and when the test starts you get an error that says "Something went wrong". Multiple PSI techs (and PSI Sections) can't…
