Thanks for input! The hardware is a Cisco CPE switch/router, and the hardware its's self isn't rebooting (line up an running all the time). I'll check the snmp daemon...

's looking like I have to have a VOIP 2.0 license to install the web files on the web server, even if it's not a poller. Is this correct? This is not correct. Your customer portal should have the web-only install for VoIP. If it doesn't, please call Customer Service and ask them to provision it.

I have OpManager too and it behaves the same as NTA. Are you sure they aren't using NBAR also, which Opmanager supports? With non-transparent proxy you will only see the proxy and client as source and destination.

APM 2.0 ships with a sample script that checks for a file of a specific name. That could be modified to check for the size of the file.

If you want to continue using the same database server, you can simply upgrade SQL Express to SQL Server Standard or Enterprise. If you want to move servers, we have a tutorial on migrating your database: www.solarwinds.com/.../SolarwindsOrion8.1DBmigration.html

Like any other large organizations we rely on a number of applications to provide statistical analysis and general performance information. One of these applications has a feature that I think you would be very wise to copy. On every single page there is a link on the footer to request a feature or report a problem. If you…

I'm also looking at installing SQL 2005 and looking at pricing I'm curious how many CAL's I need or if I should buy the per-processor version. Does anyone know what the licensing requirements are for Orion? Do I need a license for every user that will be using the web interface?

Searchable events is a long overdue option. The ability to do keyword searches for events within a specific time frame is has real value.
-
No. You need a node.
-
Here is a quick suggestion. It would be nice if the down node web component had the same tree functionality as the node tree web object.

Any plans to support more than one item on a graph?

Is it still the case that if you own the SLX version of Orion that you have to purchase the SLX versions of the modules? I currently am in a pickle with my boss since Solarwinds *upgraded* all of our modules to be the SLX versions to match our NPM. This is true for NTA and VoIP Monitor, but not for APM. For instance, I…

Will complex scenarios be supported or is this a one for one relationship between a single syslog message received and an identified interface? ie. syslog message containing X from devices A & B and syslog message containing Y on device C received within a specified time frame will result in a positive trigger on specified…

I have created groups in the Orion Console representing the Companies we monitor. I have then assigned the nodes the nodes to the respective company group. I would like to generate a report of the SAM licenses that are being used by that "Group (Company)" so that I can bill the customer more appropriately from the number…

What about being able to create a list of "interesting" interfaces based on device type and automatically add only those interfaces for monitoring? Also, what about being able to periodically re-evaluate this list and add any new interfaces that match the "interested" list?

Looking for other ways to improve performance, I noticed under the DB properties for the two Solarwinds databases (NPM and NCM) that the "full-text indexing" option is checked. Some DBAs I've talked to said to turn that off and it should improve performance. Is there any requirement for the Solarwinds databases to have…

I am sure it has been said before.. but ill mention it again.. being able to graph multiple sources on a single graph is important. Has there been any discussion on this? Im thankful that solarwinds allows me access to the raw data so that i can generate these graphs with ms sql but frankly the less i need to work with a…

That seems like an OK way to do this. Did you find a better solution? I believe you could use the SQL user experience monitor to do this too.

Are you using a supported PFC? When configuring NetFlow, follow these guidelines and restrictions: • The CEF table (and not the NetFlow table) implements Layer 3 switching in hardware. •In PFC3B or PFC3BXL mode with Release 12.2(18)SXE and later releases, NetFlow supports bridged IP traffic. PFC3A mode does not support…

I spent some more time trying to get this to work for a 2012 instance but was unsuccessful. After the monitoring login is removed from sysadmin and added to 'MonitorRole' (below), the 'Table Tuning Advisor' form stops working properly. It is unable to display the 'Current Table Information:' area in the bottom half of the…

Did Solarwinds support provide a solution to the SWJobSchedulerSvc memory leak problem? We seem to be having the same issue on our NPM 10 SP1 system.

Hi Dont know if this would work for you, but have used it in other environments. Send the syslog to a UDP reflector which is configured to send to the UNIX syslog server as well as Orion syslog collector. So Cisco device -----> UDP reflector ---------------> UNIX syslog collector ---------------> Orion syslog collector…

I tend to agree with NasaGeek.... yet I hesitate to flame Solarwinds on their forum as they tend not to like that. I too have been frustrated with SW tech support and their slow resolutions (if any) and lack of responsiveness. Each day I hope that it will be better.... - The eternal optimist.....

Hi there, Would it be possible to add the ability to assign thresholds specifically to disk volumes and also to memory and CPU? This would be a big win with my company! Thanks, Chris.

Right now, we mostly just look at all the buttons and drool because we inherited a SW project started a year ago that got dropped on it's head faster than a trailer park baby. (My Apologies in advance) for lack of PC.

i have to jump in an stand up for solarwinds.. we have a fairly large install, and i agree it does not scale great unless you are willing to expand your hardware drastically as the implementation grows... that said, if you are willing to let solarwinds support onto your system, and nose about to dint he cause of…

Hey Matt, There's no limitation on the virtual console at this time, though there is a password required to access the same thing via SSH (and you can whitelist SSH access). The simplest thing to do, which is what a lot of people are doing, is to limit who can access the VM/console in the first place. Barring that, we'd…

We have been using many SW products for many years, but we cut our teeth on NPM shortly followed by NCM. We, like most others, use them in conjunction for monitoring performance combined with backing up, logging, and monitoring configuration changes on all of our Cisco gear. (We also use NTA, SAM, Virtualization Manager,…

The VMware may be enough, but it only handles the situation where the entire VMware server goes down. If the poller stops working for any reason while the server is still up and running, then you'll lose data. I'm not advocating that you buy the HSE. I just wanted to point out why it's not completely redundant. It would…
