There is some informative documentation concerning database migrations here. www.solarwinds.net/.../faq.aspx
-
Are you trying to log into the database via the web interface, Solarwinds Database Manager, or through the Microsoft SQL Management Studio. Is this a parallel migration or in place migration of MSSQL?
-
A feature that I would find really useful is a supernet allocation wizard, as currently I'm having to manually create them and I'm normally creating a supernet and a number of subnets togeher.

Alphabetical sorting isn't possible. It is a known feature request. We are actively working on making the maps load faster. Have you installed SP1?

I have found the answer myself after a lot of head scratching.. for reference the regex would be "user=\x2212.+\x22"

The easiest way to do this is to send SNMP traps from LEM to PRTG using correlation rules and the "Send SNMP Trap" action. The LEM console is (right now) a single container, so it's all-or-nothing from a visuals perspective. You can "embed" the LEM console inside other consoles, but it's essentially the entire console, not…

Go to Manage Nodes and select all the nodes you want to change. Click edit properties. On the next screen click the SNMP check box, change the community, click submit.

It's great for passing the time while upgrading Solarwinds to version 12.

If there is a Basic and Advanced alert with same configuration turned on, do both alerts trigger? Yes Also, if a node that is the root cause of an issue is down, do advanced alert configuration alert on child nodes? I know basic alerts do not understand that the child alerts should not trigger if a parent node is down. If…

And, for what it's worth, here is a screenshot of what it looks like when a customer logs in. In this case, my "Test" account.

To further refine this, I see now from the code that this is tied to the "Breadcrumbs" list. In the code, it checks if breadcrumbs is disabled or not, but I can't see how to do this on a per-account basis.

I wanted to give an update on this. We were able to fix the problem and figured I would post our fix here in the event anyone ever has the same issue. It had to do with the IP Stack in Windows. We ran the following command to fix it: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Richard, Those views are set up to be 'Views by Device Type'. What this means is that if we detect the node your looking at is one of those device types, we automatically use that view when you click on the node. Now let me see if I can answer your questions: 1. You could create menu items that are just links to the page…

when monitoring a volume on a cluster, you need to add a new node specifically for the cluster IP (often there are multiple cluster IP addresses, so you need to add a new node for each of them) You need the cluster admin dude to give you an IP address, and the volumes presented to the IP address.. add each IP to Orion as a…

How many elements do you actually have? Is it blocking you from adding? The 10M is just the number we use for SLX.

It's still available. Just contact your Sales rep.

In the past I had downloaded the FREE kiwi syslog server and installed on my laptop where I have Windows Server 2003 per testing purposes. I updated it to the latest release and now it says that it is a trial edition and that it has expired. Where can I find the latest FREE syslog server? Thank You and regards Rodolfo…

I am also looking for this... need to do interface, memory and CPU utilisation within core hours...

Once you've become a customer, what SolarWinds web properties do you visit, how often, and for what? Do you continue to visit the solarwinds.com website? Almost daily. Part of my get to work ritual. How often? What kind(s) of content do you normally go looking for on solarwinds.com? First it is basic understanding, then…

With APM 2.0, you'll be able to create and schedule custom scripts that could do what you're describing.

Thanks NG !

I can only speak as an employee of SolarWinds, but I can say we spend a lot of time making sure that upgrades go smoothly. They aren't always perfect, but I think it's fair to say that we do a much better job with upgrades than we used to do. In general, it will be a guided installation, followed by a run of the…

great that has sorted it! thanks!

The LEM Reports (and a lot of LEM content) is oriented around the types of events, not so much the types of devices. Technically, any device could generate a "new user" event, for example, so we've got a report that includes all "new user" events since (generally) all of them will be relevant for change management…

Network Discovery, and hence the seed file, won't work with SNMP v3. We'll add that feature later this year, but it's not available today. -another thing, is it possible to discover devices but monitor only interfaces which are used as connectivity to other active devices and not the interfaces which are connected to…

Try and re-write it without using "none". It's unclear what you mean, but I almost never see an alert that needs "none". Use "all" or "any". If you want to alert when an interface but is NOT any of those names, then say Trigger when ALL apply Interface Status is equal to Down Interface Alias does not contain x

I use Thwack almost every day, the customer portal when a new update is needed, and the main solarwinds.com site almost never. I'm familiar with the Knowledge Base, but I've never had good luck with it. I really, really don't like the search function, and more often than not, the information is outdated. Even when…

Nice one! If you happen to use StackStorm (it's a great Event Driven Automation platform), there's a Orion pack I wrote (link). It would be great if project going supplies Pythontic objects for interacting with Orion that builds on the basic SDK.
-
I also rarely use the main Solarwinds.com site except if I am looking for something new that I have heard about. I do find I am into Thwack very frequently and also the Customer Portal.

You should probably do a MIB walk of the target device. You can use the SolarWinds Engineer's Toolset to do the MIB walk. It'll tell you which MIBs are actually available on your device.
