We're still running Orion 7.8.5 and we're experiencing the same issues. If its a new XOS switch, its extremely slow discovering the interfaces. Any non-XOS switch works just fine. Our folks dread having to add a single port to Orion right now since it takes soooooo long. We're also migrating away from non-XOS switches to…

I did a packet capture & saw the NPM sending alot of SNMP get-requests to the XOS device that was failing to send SNMP get-responses to the querrys. The Extr.Net TAC indicated that my switch is defunct & suggested a RMA. This does not appear to be the kind of problem that can be cured w/a RMA as the problem looks to be…

I have had the same problem on a x450. It took 32 hours to dicovery all interfaces. I was going from the US to Germany thru a VPN tunnel. I know that does not help but that was way too long to discover. SZ

I'm seeing the same thing with the Summit 450. MRTG's cfgmaker enumerates the interfaces quickly, but Orion is so slow that it's practically unusable.

There's no down-side to this, the new pollers will be added only. The servers that already had the pollers will not be affected: you won't lose historical data and there won't be an excessive load of 100 pollers being added.
-
I too noticed that Ver7 was slow, but the Ver8 Orion that I'm now using in conjunction w/this switch is unsatisfactory. The S450 has been discovering for over 12hours & only 33 interfaces have been found thus far.

You may want to check this tool out. We use the Alert Execute Program action to forward the notification message to TelAlert. TelAlert 6e | MIR3 Emergency Notification and Mass Notification Software for the Enterprise * Plan and monitor the entire notification process * Designate personnel and groups * Create detailed…

System Manager doesn't have that kind of auditing capability.

I'd like to see some colour in the tee shirts on the thwack store, they tend to be dark colours and grey... Lets have some colour!

Have you successfully added any devices to Orion? Is anything being managed? When you run discovery, do you get anything? * You should have SNMP enabled on all the devices you want to manage * You need to add the community strings of the devices you want to find to the Network Discovery Can you post a screenshot of what…

We previously had our installation on a VM database server, and performance was horrific. Constant timeouts trying to retrieve resources and long waits for reports were the norm. We had the same setup that your client is pushing for, a fibre channel SAN and fairly new dell ESXi hosts. I would definitely push for a physical…

We are working on a migration utility, but we don't have one yet. Keep in mind that APM has the concept of Application Monitors and Application Monitor Templates, each of which groups individual monitors into a coherent monitoring unit. Since IPM doesn't have that concept, a straight migration might not be the best way to…

Polling Engine mode is only relevant if you have multiple polling engines. In that case, you can have the polling engines associated with the NPM polling engine or load-balanced.

I had a really productive talk with a contractor helping us with F5 configurations and we decided to go on an interesting monitoring model involving Solar Winds APM and F5 BigIP. The F5 will monitor all of pool of servers, and maintain the VIP. Solar Winds APM will hit the VIP directly and store the results, standard…

Hey Scott, We do still provide the built-in Snort IDS on our virtual appliance, which you could deploy. You can also deploy an appliance dedicated to that function if you so choose, rather than using the all-in-one functionality of the single LEM appliance. What we've found, though, is that the complexities and overhead of…

Nice! It would be great if you could post your custom poller on the Content Sharing Zone. What Cisco models does the poller support?
-
I figured it out. The string '${NodeID}' evaluates to the NodeID.

That's not how the licensing works. NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is an extension of Orion. You pay to "turn on" NetFlow for that size Orion. You pay to turn on NetFlow for the particular Orion you own.

This is a common practice for customers whose install gets blanked-up. It's not drastic.

If anyone has received a copy, I'd also like a copy lcowart@pinellascounty.org. Looking to do a very similar thing

Would you be so kind to send me a copy of your script as well. painscough@mh.connectria.com

I would like to get a copy of your script. -Mark

Backwards: API: No, we don't have an API for accessing config or event data just yet. DB2/RACF: We do have agents for AIX and a third-party product that can gather data from iSeries (system i, AS/400, OS/400, whatever) systems; there might be third party agents that can also gather data from z/OS. For iSeries, the third…

You can't do this with NPM; however, you can do it with Application Performance Monitor. www.solarwinds.com/.../index.aspx

Are you saying it's only 5GB or you only have 5GB space? I can't imagine a situation where you would only have 5GB available on disk. If you only have 5GB total space... you really need to free some up. That said, you can do the steps Adatole mentioned to limit how much data SW is collecting each day. You also could…

do you need to run the update report scheme thing in custom properties to make it work? can not see why but is the only thing i can think of...

No. And we know it's a pain. We'll be fixing that in the next version.
