  • The browser doesn't do any browser sniffing except for where we've found errors. We build the web console following standards, but some browsers--IE 6, I'm looking at you!--don't follow standards very well. When we find something that doesn't work in a particular browser, we may fix it for a troublesome browser as a…
  • I'm not sure what kind of answer you're looking for about the database and just how "relational" it is or isn't. You ask "why", but the answer to such questions are typically buried in the history of the product and decisions that were made during development long ago. On the other hand, what problem would you like to…
  • Thank you for your reply. Stopping the Alert Manager Engine Service is very quick compared to using the Scheduled Maintenance. Have put both methods into our documentation. Thanks for replying.
  • Its Windows 2008 Ent. R2 64bit, The log file is not exist on the server under solarwinds, I have searched all the paths! Thanks,
  • Hi Everyone, well I got it to work, well at least in my testing its working as expected. I setup a custom poller and setup the advanced alert and I am gettting msgs when I expected to. Thanks for everyone's help in getting this taken care of!!
  • An eval is equivalent to an SLX with the 30 day limit.
  • trying now... james on the US help desk has reactivated my license on for portal for me, but i need to get to the point where i can get the core Poller back up and running on a trial version.. but it thinks it ids a poller... if this works, it mught work when ir einstall otherwise i will need advice on a reg hack
  • hey there... what was your problem in the end? i had my environemtn working great, but i had to convert to SSL port 443. i followed the instructions in the admin guide and the KB article, and got to the point of re-running the config wizard to repoint all web stuff to port 443 but i got the lovely aspnet error we always…
  • Actually, give me a bit and I'll update this. Since this is just an eval install with a few of us playing in it, I think we have two app monitors that have the same name and only one is actually working (yay user error!). Following your tip to do a app discovery scan may properly get this assigned. Thanks for the response,…
  • for one that large, It could be 3 or 4 hours. You should schedule it for a time where you can afford to be down. And then leave it and come back.
  • You could use a script to do this in APM today.
  • Have you had problems with the 8.1 database manager?
  • if your sending an email alert you can place a second address in the email that way you get the email also and can use that to show them that the email was sent.
  • Yes, but it's not as urgent as some other features such as web-based administration, enhanced and easier-to-use custom MIB pollers, automatic alert suppression based on topology, AD integration, etc. Those are all issues that I hear about frequently. They expand Orion in significant ways. Multi-threading would be cool and…
  • Michael, The reason we chose Solarwinds over our Infoblox IPAM solution is availability of data.. With the infoblox solution we were unable to export or extract the data in an automated fashion as readily. The solution IMO seems built to hoarde data versus share.
  • Types of Service isn't CBQoS, CBQoS deals with Policy and Class related info. Try this on one of your interfaces configured for QoS. 1. Remove the Policy from the interface. 2. Re-apply the Policy to the Interface and check back in NTA after a polling cycle or two. I have the same issue with some Interfaces and any change…
  • Hi Michal, I had tried but it does not work. Regards, Yew Ann
  • Had a look into this as I wasn't touching SCOM with a bargepole, and from what I can tell its essentially a ton of Performance Counter metrics for the various Messaging/Orchestration aspects of the system. I'm pretty sure what we'll end up with is what SCOM does. There's also the BAM side of it which I didn't look at, but…
  • No losses. The change is just to licensing, not to the database.
  • I'd have to drag Dev into it to explain the details, but Remote Desktop does lead to some issues with Map Maker. In the next release, we expect to make Map Maker installable on the desktop, with a remote connection to the database, thereby eliminating the need for RDP sessions.
  • Second half of 2008.
  • Each application is one "job" to our poller, so splitting them into two templates doesn't reduce the load. It slightly increases the load. You should arrange your components into templates that are meaningful to how you want to manage your apps. Don't worry about scalability. Ultimately, the total number of components does…
  • Try going to Manage Nodes, select the device in question, select rediscover from more actions. Then check back in a little bit. Usually fixes it for me.
  • It's Case # 1060826 - Agents status stuck "Update in progress" since 9/30. I was able to uninstall an agent manually, and deploy an agent to it. That doesn't explain why the it was stuck in upgrading status stuck for a week. I'm hoping that the issue was fixed in the GA release, so that once these 12 are fixed it will not…
  • It's a check box in the Configuration Wizard. Feature must be installed on your SQL server too.
  •  If you're running on Windows, you can use the AppBuilder to browse to WMI Counters that will--I think--report on those factors. Use the WMI Performance Counter Monoitor Are you on Windows?
  • Hello Folks- Check your Orion Core Administrator Guide for specific instructions on how to embed direct webpage calls to Orion into other pages. It's called DirectLink. DirectLink enables you to call directly into monitored views in Orion NPM and APM. You could find the Core Admin Guide by doing a search on the main site.…
  • Thanx Christine. I did not know I could open support requests for Kiwi Syslog. I opened a case and am waiting to hear back. -michael
  • I wish I could, but it's still too early. I can tell you what the priorities are, but I don't have dates ( and couldn't tell you if I did) or certainties. I've been a product manager long enough to have learned that if I make promises about features too early, then I inevitably have to explain why some of them didn't make…
  •  I tried copying the DLL, but I'm still having the problem. I have opened up a support case. I have two pollers. One of which is also the App server. (as well as Cirrus and EE toolset 8.x) I have about 540 Nodes and about 11000 elements in the DB. I think I probably have about 100 maps. They asked about the stats of our…
