We have Storage Manager and Vman but the Storage Manager install process is quite a task for a non storage person. Our storage guy doesn't like the fact we bought it even though his boss is the one who ok'd it.

No. You can't report on them in this version except through an advanced sql query report. Good suggestion, though. Custom properties have a type (e.g., location) and values (e.g., Peoria), whereas tags are just values. Tags are lighter and more flexible, which is why we went that way.

In Thwack, Content Exchange, check out my post entitled HPUX 11.31 Custom Pollers (CPU, Memory, Filesystem).

Ah....ADVANCED SQL REPORT....yeah, that made a difference Let me play with that and get back with you! Thanks!

Thanks Josh. Getting a DNS name from NoIP helped. I'm all set now. Cheers.

There's no API at present. I'm not understanding why you couldn't insert 1300 ICMP objects with network sonar.

Hi, I see your point for WhoIS, but NSLookup and Traceroute tools use your configured DNS Server on the LEM Manager. I have validated this on my own installation, by querying several devices on my local domain and domain names external to my organisation and they return the expected results. Can you confirm that you have…
-
as they say in development, "that shouldn't happen." Generally we try to catch everything we can possible to prevent the LEM partition from filling up. Usually it's something like errors in the logs (a debug would likely tell us what's going on).
-
Gtbiv1, Yep agree, now we have case# 1052983 for this too.

Hi Well a quick and dirty way would be to add two custom fields in NPM, via the custom field editor and get your man to add this data to these while it is being done in NCM. Then create a resource to view these custom fields in the Node details page Otherwise the SQL tigger approach would be the best best for soem kind of…
-
You don't need NCM. NPM alerts are configured separately and each alert you use needs configured. Yes, you can set alerts for node down, interface, down, and packet loss. The alerts will fire based on your status polling interval and how often you set the alert to check. Instant means you must be polling status at an…

have you used the keys "STR + ALT + DEL" while the console window of LEM was still active ? (e.g. because you wanted to get out of the console window) This would force Linux in ESX to do a reboot...

If your VM unexpectedly shut down, that seems odd, yes. There is nothing built-in to the appliance to shut it down. The only ways it'd be shut down would be for the VM to get powered off in vSphere or for someone to issue a 'shutdown' command to the appliance via the vSphere console.

Andrew, Running 8.0.2 on a virtual machine is supported, but I'd encourage you to renew your maintenance agreement. We are about to release 8.5, which is a good step up from 8.0.2. We have an 8.6 not far in the future, and 9.0 is coming down the pike next year. We are aggressively investing in Orion, so you'll be missing…

Excellent example.

Good call smargh! Apart from using the command line, there's a GUI tool located at : C:\ProgramFiles\Solarwinds\Common\SWEmailNotify.exe This will test the email gateway specified.

Out of curiosity, did the widget show the problem once you knew to look?

The seed file format is very picky. You need more than one space. Make it look like this: Community Strings xxx yyy zzz Nodes 10.199.1.20 10.199.1.8 10.199.1.70
-
I would do this via SQL rather than a script. Try a select first... select caption, sysname, ip_address from nodes where sysname <> caption If you are then sure that the update is required (and the correct updates are listed) - turn it into an update... update nodes set caption = sysname where sysname <> caption Make sure…

Orion should be able to realize either by mapping the topology of the network (preferred) or by allowing input of dependency/logical topological info which devices are connected to which and how. In the case of switches, it's a lot more obvious that if the switch is down, then whatever is plugged into it can't be reached.…

SP3 made big increases in performance. SP4 is out soon and it fixes a few more issues with maps.

I think you should look at the Applications With Problems resource and use the filtering under Edit.

I think you might need to log a quick support calls with solarwinds for that one, it is wierd! I know it is off topic, and we need someone to give you an answer on this, but I am heading towards that number soon as soon as I add my next customer to my Orion install, but i am wondering what your 10k installation looks…

I'd recommend you send them to support, if you haven't already, because it's entirely possible they've been remediated through patches OR are on the docket to be remediated, so you at least can document beyond the restrictconsole compensating control in the meantime.
-
I'm not sure. It sounds like a problem of scale. Maybe someone else in the community has some thoughts of how to do this....
-
Request noted, and you're not the first to ask.
-
Yet they have the ability to login? Have you restarted (and I really don't like that this is a 'solution' to a lot of weirdness in WHD) the help desk service lately? Or do you have a custom look/feel?
-
The best I can say is to look at our history. We release pretty often, usually twice a year. We released v2.5 in February. We will release again in the second half of 2009. Beyond that, I can't be more exact.

I see in the v10.2.1 patch that it fixed the Auto Hide feature. I will apply this and test soon.
