While I still haven't gotten a solution for the Custom MIB poller, the upgrade to 8.5.1 solved the alerting service problem for me. What version of Orion are you using? In 8.5.1 I believe they tweeked a few things so that the alerting service will attempt to re-connect to the database if there is a problem.
-
I also started getting "No Data" for new mibs - although they worked for a few weeks at first. Upgrading to Orion 8.1 solved the problem for me.
-
I was having a similar problem with the Custom MIB service - the cause turned out to be a memory leak, which caused the service to fail after using up 900MB of memory. Before you restart the service open up the task manager and check out the usage to see if this is affecting you. Problem was resolved in SP3.

The problem with using enumeration with this perticular MIB is that I can't assign perticular values to specific readings .. I have to assign perticular bits. For example: Bit1: On battery Bit2: Battery Charging Bit3: Over Voltage Bit4: Under Voltage Etc -- up to 64 bits long. Not sure how (or if) to do that with Orion.…

The log files are full of entries like (in this case for the alerting service): 2007-10-18 00:12:18,383 [MainTaskThread] ERROR All - Exception in MainTask Loop Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. AS WELL AS: 2007-10-14 05:30:34,425…

We've seen this issue as well - but for us, we had already changed the toolbar option for some accounts to show the ADMIN toolbar so we were able to admin using those accounts. Additionally, we're able to logout/login using admin account if it's done using a web browser opened locally on the same computer running Orion.…

I've been working under ticket #16866 for a few months now .. but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere which is why I figured I'd see if anyone here had run into this issue as well.

DB is on a seperate server, but is within the same colocation (no network events have been logged at times when the services stop working). The only suggestion they've mentioned so far was that perhaps there was a backup/indexing going on at the time the service failed - however I've had our DB guys send me the log for the…

We're just in the final stages of a number of IPT deployments in our enviroment, and would love to be included in the beta.

For Cisco devices, you can ensure it will maintain the same ifIndex by putting in the global command: snmp-server ifindex persist Without this command Cisco devices (especially routers and module-based switches) will change ifIndexes everytime you add a module, or when you look at the router the wrong way... ~Everest…

Well we're certainly not at the number of nodes other people have said they use... No, I only see the breakups in graphs built by SNMP. The interval on the graph I've shown is every 10 minutes. I'm not sure what else to try -- getting money from management for a polling engine is going to be next to impossible because we…

Hmm, strange. We were origionally working with 9-minute statistics collection. I yesterday moved it to 12-minute collection, and it hasn't helped the problem at all. The server is 3.0G with 4Gig of ram. The drive on the Orion server is a VM, acting like just a regulard HD ... I don't know the stats on the DB server…

Thank you Denny. Can I ask to be notified when this bug is addressed? I expect to get a number of questions on it.
-
Believe me, I hear your pain. I've been working on ticket #16866 since Sept 5th... I've since gotten stuck in the dreaded "we're looking into it" for the past 3 weeks - so I've pretty much given up on that ticket.
-
The second problem seems to mostly be solved with 8.5.1... There are still erros at midnight, but there are less of them and the alerting service & web console continue to work. Unfortunately we're still having problem No. 1. Has anyone run into this before?
-
It's interesting that you say that it's only for basic alerts in your setup. All of our node-down alerts are configured using the advanced engine, and still having the problems. Seems to favour devices in some specific geographic locations as well (strange as that is).
-
We group (in alerts and on the main webpage) our nodes by (Geographical Location) -> (Site Specific Location) -> (Type). Geographical & Site Specific are custom properties we have to enter for each one. Makes adding a node a little longer, but makes defining alerts and access levels much easier, as I can for example give…

Your probably hitting a Cisco bug. ID # CSCee16176 Details from Cisco TAC below: "The CISCO-POP-MGMT-MIB was designed for AS-5xxx platform. Later it got included into Modular Access Router (MAR) and Integrated Service Router (ISR) platforms. Currently, the tables in this MIB are not getting populated correctly for certain…

It seems to be a number of issues - although I suspect they all have the same cause. (Ticket number is 16866) Biggest problem is that our Custom MIB poller service seems to randomly fail. The service still shows up as "started", however it isn't actually polling (the "last polled" timestamp doesn't change). We've actually…
-
We've also done the 8.5 -> 8.5.1 upgrade without any problems... It actually solved one of the two problems we've had which have been stopping us from moving this tool into production for three months.

From the change log for SP3, referring to items changed in previous service packs (SP1 or SP2): - The Alerting Engine service is now disabled by default on the Hot Standby, Additional Website, and Additional Poller installs to reduce database contention
-
Thanks - while if I run into another MIB which uses flags I'll have the same problem, the MIB you suggested works like a charm. Thanks again.

Good question :) Specifically, it says "Cannot connecto to <remote poller name> Permission denied. Be sure the server <remote poller name> has full access rights to the client. It should be noted that these servers do nothing but Orion, and have always been setup using the config wizards etc. Other than microsoft patching…

1) The ability to add a 'parent' for a node to easily build a network hierarchy, so that alerts will only fire for the device that is actually down. This is a big one for us. 2) Streamlined way of adding nodes. Currently if I add a UPS, for example - I have to go through the 'add a device' wizard...followed by the custom…

For me I just rebuilt our Orion server but kept the database (hosted on an external server), and when I re-installed Orion the alerts were there, so they must be stored in the DB... But, I know at least in 8.5 for the advanced alerts there is a way to save the alerts as a file (one file per alert), and then 'import' that…

Hi Bryan, I believe in either SP2 or SP3, the service was reconfigured so that it would be 'disabled' on all the polling engines, and only active on the primary machine with system manager. It was noted in the change log with whatever SP made the change. Is it starting as 'disabled' on your main box as well? Regards,…

No one has run into this? Is there perhaps a different way to pull the "on battery" etc. information from an APC UPS someone else is using?
