Derek, I was looking at my interface reports to see if I could replicat the problem you're having. I seem to be seeing something a little different though. When I select a Time Period of "Last 3 Months", the smallest Sample Interval option that I have in the drop-down box is "Every Hour". I don't even have the option to…

You can monitor all of those things with just NPM. The Administrator Guide explains this in detail. Basically, you just need to install SNMP on the monitored server, configure a community string and then configure the node within Orion with the same string. Do a discovery and Orion should automatically show you CPU, Memory…
-
That would be a nice option, but I believe the only way you could do that is by creating a custom node property & then manually putting those serial numbers into the custom property.
-
Why did you lose 6 months of historical data?

Update...running SL2000. SQL 2005 DB is running on dedicated Quad-Core Xeon 2Ghz w/ 4GB RAM. Raid 1(OS) & Raid 10(DB). 841 Nodes, 1238 Interfaces, 505 Volumes Node Status: 60 Seconds (95% of my nodes) Remaining Nodes: 300 Seconds (5%) Interfaces Status: 45 seconds Volumes Status: 300 Seconds

I don't believe that would work because your first condition group says, "ANY". I would reccommend setting up two seperate alerts. The first to alert on your router and/or switch. The second alert for the servers. I like to use seperate alerts depending on the criticality of the node. This way you can adjust escelation and…

For some reason it just took a while for teh report to be automatically removed from the resource. You can delete the report from NCM Policy Reporter without deleting all of the associated rules. I would still like to see the ability to add/remove desired reports from that resource. Thanks.

This is kinda general speaking, but Syslog, or logging, is any output that could appear on the Cisco console. Logging on your Cisco equipment can be configured to send at 8 different levels. 0 is the most severe and 7 is least severe. If you set your Cisco device to log at level 4, it will send log messages that are level…

I wish there was a way to automatically discover serial numbers, but I haven't found it. NCM does this though. If you don't have NCM, you can create a custom poller for this OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.47.1.1.1.1.11. Then create a custom report in Report Writer. Try these fields to start with and then you can tweak from there. Select…

I would give support a call if you haven't already.

I have similar issues with new servers. I usually just restart the SNMP service and then re-poll.
-
You shouldn't have to reboot the host. Have you checked the "Poll for Vmware" button & added ESX credentials?
-
The screenshot of the "Disk Volumes" appears to be volumes for an individual ESX host. To get that information, you'll need to be monitoring each individual host. You'll want to configure SNMP on the hosts and once you have them added, you can poll them directly or through Vcenter.

Create a new Summary View, within Admin > Manage Views > Add. Name the view and select Summary for the Type of View. You can then add however many resources you would like to the appropriate columns...in this case 3 "Last XX Syslog Messages" resources. Then just do a preview and edit each resource individually. In the…

By default the Interface Details page shows CRC's and Errors, if you selected to monitor them when doing your initial discovery. When creating your alerts, select "Interface" as the property to monitor. You can then select Errors & Discards This Hour or Today. Look around in your Advanced Alert Configuration and you'll see…

I did eventually open a support case for this. I spoke to a technician who originally wanted me to run the config wizard. Fortunately, I didn't do that. I ended up talking to a different technician who walked me through deleting some bogus lins in the database. This resolved my issue.

Is there anyone from SolarWinds that cares to chime in?
-
bump....
-
Did this get resolved? I am also getting the error "Failed to Poll Access Points". I've got 4 Cisco AP's and the wireless controller added to the map. NPM is able to poll data about the AP's, clients & interfaces just fine prior to creating the map. Matt - I'm not sure what you mean by a "group object". Can you elaborate?
-
I started a separate thread about issues I'm having with the new charts. So far I haven't gotten a response, so I'll bring it up here since its directly related to 10.3. I'm noticing inconsistencies between the old charts and the new charts. Thread: "Inconsistencies in Total Bytes Interface Charts".

We upgraded from NPM 10.1.3 & APM 4.2. The upgrade itself went perfectly fine. Overall I've been happy with the new features in 10.3 & SAM 5.0.1, especially the hardware monitors. We have about 5300 elements in our environment. We also upgraded to NCM 7.0.2. The only outstanding issue I see is with the new graphs. I…

Have you tried just using the variable for the custom property? e.g ${CustomProperty}
-
I use quite a few custom properties similar to what you're using. I have one called "Node Type" for Access Switch, Core Switch, Remote Site Router...etc. I also have custom properties for city, state, floor, Cisco SmartNet #. I try to keep these types of properties the same in NPM & NCM for consistancy sake. The Custom…

Bump...

As of a few weeks ago, it was. I've been wanting to get NTA for a while, but theres no way were going to pay for SL2000 when we only need ~100 NTA licenses.

We monitor our 3 exchange servers with the following APM monitors: Mailbox Receive Queue, Mailbox Send Queue, SMTP Local Queue, SMTP Remote Queue & SMTP Categorizer Queue. I also monitor the Information Store, MTA Stacks & System Attendant services. There are plenty of other counters you could potentially monitor, but…
-
I would like to echo the OP's comment. SAM Hardware monitoring is really cool, but we really need some kind of a dashboard or summary resource. Any idea if this will be included in an upcoming release?
-
Were currently using Brocade switches. At this time were only interested in monitoring port utilization. It would be nice to be able to monitor CPU & Memory like Cisco devices, right out of the box.
-
1. On the NPM Webpage go to Admin > License Details 2. I'm not understanding this one. Did you configure both NICs with an IP at some point? Why are you using two NICs? 3. We have NPM & NCM running on the same box and only use the NPM Syslog server. I don't think there is a benefit to use one over the other. I'm not 100%…

Are you sure that your Syslog isn't configured to retain messages for only 1 day?
