Thanks patrick.hubbard ! I agree with the "Ability to Execute" rating because I have used many of the other products on this list. I like Solarwinds because I can generate a view for each individual from Layer 1 to Layer 7 (OSI Model) to give them the State of the Network view. I especially like giving the Layer 8 and 9…

Sharing this one with other DoD'ers that are not on Thwack!

I would tend to agree, with both rschroeder and penguinpunk on the view of syslog. Unfortunately, syslog is being feed into splunk, which is another group in another state, so getting access to the data records maybe an issue. I used to feed syslog into my Solarwinds but that also caused issue with the database filling…

I agree, documentation as a whole is not very exciting and does take time, but if it is going to prevent someone from calling me at 2am to fix a problem or 6 months down the road about such and so device at least I have the documentation to a point where they can pick up the pieces. I also use a 9x12 inch sketch pad to do…

Ok, Now that Pokemon is out (thought it actually died), I have to say I am very unhappy. This means that someone is going to track/play/place/whatever this pokemon inside of a government space {those of you know what I am talking about}. This means I am going to have to sit through 3 hours of training that covers the fact…

I suppose if I won the grand prize, I would be studying and reading more. I am sure if my kids saw the prize they would be playing it 24x7. Good luck to all.

Sounds like an amazing time. Thanks for sharing.

All very good points and depending on each environment will decide the extent at which you can implement/tune. #1 On going process and depends what the "Fire of the Week" is. #2 Do not see it happening this year, maybe on the perimeter but not likely. #3 Is my daily bread. Live it, work it, develop it and try to make it…

I read this thread prior to reading the actual question. Although the answer does make since to me and justified, I think there is also another equally important answer.

These are three of the dozen or so Technologies we are looking at. In order to implement any of the technologies we must decide on a 5 year plan in order to design the right solution the meets our organizational needs and flexibility to maintain mission readiness.

Sharing this with my other Govt friends. Good one Paul.

Wish I had more time to get into what is happening in and around DC. The season is almost upon us and the flooding to ads will be interesting.

I am looking for a bit more information about Database Fragmentation and how best to manage it.

I will be reviewing these sessions over the next couple months. There are a lot of good talking points. Thanks,

Excellent! I will give it a read. Next trick is getting the Server team to read through it..... Thanks,

April Mission: Winners Announced! Posted by Mark Blackwell in Community Blog on Apr 7, 2015 12:20:00 PM We are super pumped to announce the winners of the "Configure This" April Mission. Before doing so I want to thank the amazing team over at SolarWinds and INE [notably danielleh, maria.b + rmclain] who helped sponsor and…

this would be an awesome tool. Much faster communication with a larger group then emailing back and forth. Please add.

We will be limiting the shopping sites the week of and after Thanksgiving.

It is not only the tools issue for not alerting or providing a sanity check, but the engineer should have followed some sort of Change Management Process. Each organization has their own wickets to jump through and processes to follow. I have worked for some organizations where I was the "Change Management Guy" and others…

It was a pleasure working with you and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

While some government agencies are moving to the Cloud, it will take some time for the majority to move. People still want to see, look, and hear there server rooms buzzing and humming.
-
Just waiting until I get authority to install DPA and SRM. Looking forward to it.

Looking forward to it.

One of my major issues with the ASA is that the asdm console is fairly useless in our environment. Having to deal with Java versions between the ASA and the ACS has always been an issue. I personally prefer Palo Alto or Fortinet. Web based access and a CLI that is readable. I will have to re-look the Cisco NGFW as we are…

Good article, help define the different types of logs for those new to monitoring.

Anyone have any thoughts on this.

Bring it!!!!!

Thanks, I know there are some government organizations starting to move into the Cloud, but there is still some apprehension in doing so. The lack of control, touch-and-feel is still a major hurdle for some executives to understand, but nonetheless strides are taking place to move forward.
