  • 2 options we could try : Sniffer - if your traffic to your T1 router is predictable (ie know what ethernet interface is used) then you could sniff that interface and just sort by traffic. Netflow - if you use Cisco routers you can use Netflow that monitors all flows thru a router and you can export the data to a netflow…
  • Are these by chance Unix or Linux servers? Does orion report them rebooting at 5:15AM? If so I have seen this before. The net-snmp agent is faulty and will falsely say the server rebooted when it has not...like your seeing. I suggest you upgrade the net-snmp agent. BB
  • quote:Originally posted by cherrypicker The escalation is pretty limited - would like to see features such as groups, scheduling (for on call person). Would like the ability to acknowledge the alert via email in addition to the Alert Manager. Good point there. Every Monday I have to go into Orion and update a few alerts to…
  • Don....any eta on the final alert engine release? I'm having a difficult time writing new alerts because of my lack of use with these macros. In the mean-time do you guys have canned alerts (like in the old versions of Orion) that can be loaded into the new alert engine? For instance in the old systems (InBps) showed up as…
  • Please post these feature requests in the new location : thwack.com/.../50.aspx BB
  • Seems to me all you need is SNMP and Ping opened up from ur ONPM server to the management interfaces of your devices. That's how we are doing it.
  • Thanks Issac.....that's what I expected. I think that would be a good feature request for SW to put in the code. BB
  • quote:Originally posted by nivnivo hey i have a problem with custom polling that i cant assign devices to mib i tried the mib example and some i had created the test work fine and after i assign devices the number is still 0. i use npm 8.0.2 . please help... Make sure you have Hotfix 1 installed for 8.0.2 :…
  • quote:Originally posted by Don Yonce Let me be more specific...... Let's not confuse "Custom Properties" with "Custom SNMP Poller". The Custom SNMP Poller allows you to select any OID from the MIB database (or any one not in the database) and begin collecting data from it. This is quite a bit different from the current…
  • quote:Originally posted by Mithrilhall Anyway you could post some screenshots? This is what our main network map looks like: Mithrilhall...I'm assuming that weather.com map updates automatically? How did you get that to work? That's pretty cool. BB
  • We use CiscoSecure ACS but don't see a need for Orion. Do you only use TACACS with local authentication? We tie TACACS to our Active Directory. The AD pass-thru works well. I agree more user control is needed like you suggest with unsuccessful attempts, or passwords needing to change after X amount of days if you use local…
  • Andy, I have 3 basic peeves with installation/upgrades of the Orion product and add-ons. 1. In a multi poller environment you have to stop the services of every server before you try and upgrade a single copy. We have 5 servers (4 pollers, 1 NPM Server). I have to terminal server into all 5 boxes and shut everything down…
  • Bump....anyone? SW support?
  • quote:Originally posted by jonchill We've started using Crystal Reports which is so much more flexible than what Orion currently offers and includes graphing which is what our board was looking for, if only Solarwinds would update report writer to include the Crystal engine then I think that would give us great reports and…
  • What is being done with EOC today? We haven't seen any new versions, patches, etc in months. With NPM going to 10.2.2 I'm seeing event icons with X now since EOC doesn't seem to have a icon for it. Where are the feature requests? I have one. It's tiresome to have to pull the same report data from X amount of pollers. We…
  • We have evaluated NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer..that's the product that uses Cisco NetFlow to tell you who is using what. We are planning on purchasing it. There has been talk about having links from Orion to NetQoS and vice versa. I have not heard much about it recently. B
  • Don, How about emailing the information to your paying customers that have a support contract with you? I don't want to waste time of your staff with questions until I'd had a chance to read over the new features and so forth. Whats the least ETA on 7.6 release? Thanks! BB
  • quote:Originally posted by Network_Guru See these posts from/with the founder of Solarwinds. www2.solarwinds.net/.../pop_profile.asp I don't know of too many other large companies that have the owner posting in a technical forum (although it would be good to know if custom MIB support is even in the plans - Yes or No?).…
  • I agree. Josh and Don do post to questions from time to time but I think they (SW) could maybe have someone review posts and better respond to them or a more regular basis. It would be a big help.
  • Just got an email from SW today as a matter of fact, maybe some of you have as well asking for feedback to the reports of "slower performance" with V7.6. I was hoping this would have been released by now...but if it does have memory problems I hope its fixed soon. But here is a case that the email ist works and should be…
  • There really isn't much documentation with remote pollers, etc. I currently run 4 remote pollers and 1 NPM server distributed over 2 data centers in 2 cities. If you have any specific questions please post them here to PM me. I'll try my best to answer them for you. BB
  • Not sure about this issue in particular but why haven't you upgraded to something newer like V8.5? BB
  •  As such, SolarWinds is reporting the response time / latency between the data center and the branch office, not the response time / latency of the router at the branch office to its internet circuit. Is this possible? This is not a straight answer but hear me out. You are correct that latency is measured from the Orion…
  • Jon...sorry to dig this old thread up but I was wondering how Crystal Report is working for you? I have said this in many threads that Report Writer is pretty weak. We also have Crystal and wanted to know can it interface into Orion? And if so how is it working for you? Issues? Etc? Thanks for the info. BB
  • At this time you will have to log into the server to make any changes. Web administration is a frequently requested feature for a future release. BB
  • Congrats. I'm going to try it on my server. I hope in the future they make where you don't need the domain as part of the id. BB
  • This is the text I got back from support : "First, you will need to log into your Orion website as Admin. Add the accounts for all the pass through users. If you are using a domain, the account should take the form domain\username. Second, turn off anonymous access for IIS. Whenever the user authenticates to IIS, it will…
  • Dan, I see you keep your stats alot longer then the norm...like daily at 120 days instead of the default 7. Have you experience any issues with your server or database when keeping this much detailed info? Especially when your have 4 times the elements then I have. I would like to keep longer detailed and hourly stats but…
