Internet connectivity shouldn't be required for the event log forward tool, it's a free tool so it shouldn't be checking for license manager either. Anytime I've ever had issues getting the event forwarder to work, it's been a permissions or firewall issue. It installs as a service for the local system account. If you want…

Sridhar, Yes there is a simple process... But there may be some cleanup that needs to happen afterwards, or at least there was in my case. It still beat configuring from the ground up. First thing you need to do is export your settings to an INI file. There is an option on the file-menu in the kiwi service manager. Then…

Brandon, * Support for SolarWinds Licensing Does this mean we might see device based licensing in Kiwi, and if so do you know how that will impact current owners maintenance renewals?

You can use wireshark to see if the server is receiving syslog traffic. Make sure it's not blocked in the firewall, and make sure you're not using any filters that would filter out your traffic.
-
I've never had that error happen... Are you scripting e-mails or is this from the Action e-mail or Alter e-mail? If it's from a scripted e-mail, I would try setting one of the custom variables to the message or subject you are trying to send and see what you get. Otherwise, since you have not received any response to this…

Up at the top next to your activity, communications, and actions buttons is a [Create] button. If you click that and then select polls, then you can browse possible locations for your poll. I'm not entirely sure why, but most of the options were disabled for me, including the most obvious place to post a poll to me which…

If you can provide a few actual message examples and what you want filtered out of them, I’m sure it can be done.

You certainly can change it. If you open up the Kiwi services manager and click File-Setup scroll down towards the bottom of the list and expand the "Alarms" section. You'll find the disk-space monitor settings there and you can change which drive is being monitored.

Define Synched, and are you asking to have Kiwi provide a report or are you using ORION or LEM? If you're using ORION or LEM, then this probably needs to be moved to one of those forums. If you're looking for a report from Kiwi, then you will have to script it and I can help you get started with that, but you may need some…

Yes you can. As long as that information is contained within the message in a consistent format and Kiwi can see it, you can write a script and parse the information out of the message and replace the pre-existing fields with the parsed data. Then you can display the message, log it or pass it on to kiwi web access, Orion,…

Here are two scripts on thwack that do something simillar in two different ways: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-63862 http://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-125653

Jeff, We went through the same situation in July with no problems. We were testing Kiwi on a workstation and finally moved it to it's own server in production environment. I beleive the old key will probably expire, but I uninstalled it off the workstation after a week anyway. We avoided repointing devices by keeping the…

That's not a bad request, but it can currently be done via scripting. I think it would make things easier for those users who aren't fluent scriptors and it would cut 5 or 6 scripts out of my setup if this was added. But incase you have an immediate need, here is what I'm currently doing: I have a few scripts filtering…

SQL Server is simply the express edition of either SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008. Just Google "SQL Server 2005 Express" and you should find a microsoft link to download whichever one you want. Here's the link to AJAX: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=883 UltiDev should get installed by the Kiwi…

Technically that should work, but I had some issues initially as well. What I ended up doing was to setup 2 seperate filters. The first one include, then the next one excludes. It actually made managing the rules easier as I was configuring because then as I resolved problems, I could go directly to the filter that was…

dipsilon.solutions@yahoo.com This can easily be done, and I'm actually using the script linked here and a script based on the one linked here to do the same thing on multiple machines... You can find a script written to read Kiwi's own log file from the local drive and generate syslog messages here: Forwarding Kiwi Syslog…

David, Try this link: [CentOS] Remote-logging nginx? (or other non-syslog-enabled stuff) - Grokbase If you scroll down a bit llyas shares a solution. I hope that gets you going in the right direction. How do you like nginx? I've yet to spec a web project so I have to support what's already there or what gets spec'd and…

So did we give up on this?

A face to face meet would be great! I'd need it to be on like a Fri/Sat though and preferably towards the end of Q3 beginning of Q4. I'm not currently running Orion like you cool dudes are though. My budget calls for duct tape and I'm constantly surprised that I'm not required to braid my own Cat5 (I would say Cat6, but we…

Here's what I do: My first rule processes all messages and runs a script to collect some stats. I used this as an example: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-63853 and then modified it to do a bunch of other stuff including what you're asking for. That example was a script created to generate a daily statistics report…

amir.khan, Kiwi is extremely configurable. I would even argue that it can give much pricier syslog servers a run for their money. Out of the box though, without any configuration, it's only a log collector and a very basic one at that. You can set up rules to separate logs from different sources, log them into separate…

I'd have to see your rules womail. I don't have time to do much trouble-shooting this week, but I'll try to help you out if you can screenshot your rules.

Here's a trick for future reference. I've had to use this in situations where the site is not administered or the mods/admins are completely unresponsive. Google the URL, the top result should be what you're looking for, but you will need to view the Cached version of the page and you will have your answer. This is also…

The help text is misleading. It's talking about the whole scenario described and not just the time interval filter. As far as I have been able to tell, this is a global interval and is not going to store the interval per device. If you want some help with a script that will do this filtering for you just let me know and I…

Can you provide an example of the message that Kiwi is receiving? Also, post what you’re typing into the Include/Exclude filters. If you could explain what it’s currently doing, that might also help someone determine what the problem is. Is it just not filtering out the messages you want it to? Or is it filtering out…

Someone I work with suggested the same thing, and while it may not be what you are looking for, my solution was to use cached DNS from the Static Hosts file and name my hosts Hostname_IP.Add.re.ss

If I'm not mistaken, it's been a while since I used it, but I believe that the Kiwi secure tunnel can send syslogs to any syslog listener, not just Kiwi. Due to the fact that kiwi also contains a script engine and can work in tandem with SQL Server and stored procedures, it's a very capable syslog server and there's not a…

I actually modified the web app to add more configurable accounts, but Shhhhh don't tell anyone. I beleive there is already a feature request in the feature requests subsection, you should vote on it if you want to see it in an upcoming release. Message was edited by: Acy Forsythe

I take it you had to resinstall Kiwi from the sounds of it. Was it a hard drive failure? on the drive Kiwi was on? Can you get to any backups if there were any? The problem here is that kiwi is very versatile, and if you were using it for alerts then it probably had a decent number of rules setup, possibly some scripting…

That is definitely possible. Just create a rule, add a filter on message text, and in the include field put in "OSPF" "STP". For the Action, choose Sendmail and fill in the mail notification info.
