I love the nuances of language... Today's question was almost, but not quite entirely unlike a tricky question. First person to tell me where I pulled the gist of that sentence from gets a like

I’m surprised I haven’t uploaded that script, I’ll have to dig for it and you can setup an all-messages rule at the top of the heap and remove the single quotes from every message before it gets to that point. On topic though, I agree this should be done on the backend as a part of the log to db action.
-
At some point, you just need to add another syslog server. If you're processing that many logs you have them going into a database right? And you can have multiple syslog servers writing to the same database so all of your logs end up in the same spot anyway. You can segregate by site or network vs. servers or whatever.
-
It's in seconds.
-
You wouldn't, and I understand that... But do you trust me? I don't work for you, I don't even work for the same company as you. How many of your customers' systems could I infiltrate because I have access to a privileged account due to a default password that I know you use everywhere?
-
It's a manual process, they'll get updated.

You sure are taking this lightly... Someone STOLE an entire KB article!!!11!!1one They took Knowledge from your base and just left you with a um BASE! They didn't even return it. WHO DOES THAT?!?! Alright then, lets get to this. Put on your Nancy Drew outfit and let's sleuth this mystery! Our first clew: They forgot to…

Whew, I’m glad I checked I was fairly certain I had them all.

You're right, you know. And now you've got me thinking about all those logs I have out there that I'm not archiving or monitoring that could theoretically alert me to some app problems. I'm going to look and see if there's anything already out there and if not, I might write something for this. With that being said, you…

I didn't really care for the movie much, or the other media reproductions. I enjoyed the book and while some of the other media was humorous, it just wasn't AS funny to me, I think he put a lot more effort and time into the books than anything else, and I think it received the best of everything that came before it.
-
That was the question about device compatibility right? With a link to the blog post and a link to a KB article with some charts or tables on different devices vs. features and what worked where? I took the test on like Monday I think and both links worked if we're talking about the same question.
-
Hrm... That link worked for me... I got 9/10

I'm hoping this will get in the pipeline now that we have AD authentication. I did create a few user levels to allow/deny access to specific tabs, but specific events would be a little tricky. You'd have to remove the filter tab and setup a filter for them. If I can get the same mods to work with the new web-host, I'll…

, This script will satisfy your 1st requirement and could be potentially modified to also support your second requirement.

I believe I’m done with all 22 questions answered correctly along with bonus question #4, missed the other 3 due to being out of town. Is that about right?
-
True, we wouldn’t have options if we all agreed I think your analogy for Hyper-V is a little biased though. What you have is a more practical multi-boot platform, so it is an improvement. And it would be more like the Partridge bus pulling a trailer with the corvette on it. You can still park, and take the corvette for a…

This is already possible. Have your messages log to Kiwi Web Access and use the web filters to filter on Date and Time. If you have any trouble working with filters, let me know, or ask in the Kiwi Syslog forum. The filters within the KSS Service Manager on the other hand, are designed to work with messages as they come…

You can keep the feature request open. I’m all for adding more non-scripted functionality to KSS. I’m also currently working on a script to set time intervals per message per device to throttle port up/down messages from the same device individually. IE, I don’t want a million port1 up/down messages so I squelch them, but…

A lot of this is scriptable, but it would be nice to have this capability out of the box. I would even go so far as to request hourly reports, but what I would like to see with this more, is a breakdown of the current e-mail alerts. I can get an e-mail if I receive 0 messages total, but I have to script something to alert…
-
This is already something you can get fairly easily via scripting and I'd even be willing to put the script together for you... All you would need to do is set up the rules required. This might even be close enough to what you are looking for already: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-170644

I agree, but please don't get rid of the console though.

Awesome! Glad I could help Roger.

Ok. I was going to dig up a 6 month old topic, but since Bronx has done it for me (and pointed me here) He can take the blame The first thing I did prior to ever purchasing Win8 was read everything I could on it, and found numerous tips on making it more Windows-ish. By the time I was done customizing, I had everything I…

Capacitors. Moral - Sometimes experience with ICs is more helpful than experience with PCs.

By “Any Event Log” do you mean writing to like the windows event log on any network server? Can you elaborate on why that would be helpful or provide specific scenarios?
-
Are you sure it’s not stopping because of the script timeout? Writing to a database table storing tons of logs may not return fast enough in some cases depending on what the machine is doing. The default script time-out I believe is 10 seconds, and I’ve written plenty of scripts that push that limit. Try keeping the part…

I've fought this too and sooo many other battles. We're still using Excel for MANY tracking related tasks. We do keep very good track of it though and anyone in my department can within a few minutes assign you an IP address.

I'm definitely a proponent for having the ability to customize what stats are generated in that e-mail. Even to the point where I have my own stats scripts firing off at different intervals to give me what I want when I want it. I still think the basics should be configurable though and agree that there should be an…

Deja vu today? I seem to remember answering the same question yesterday.

Several friends have suggested the same thing. One of these days when I have some time, I'll have to check it out.
