  • Thanks, I'll give that a shot!
  • I think there are some great pointers in this article, but it skips over the #1 source of high latency, which is storage. Whereas the latency metric for most of the areas listed is in microseconds, occasionally milliseconds, storage latency issues start with milliseconds. Saving a small amount of performance with a BIOS…
  • One of my team members just upgraded to 8.0 and, per the advice of Solarwinds Support, disabled polling via the appliance. As a result, we have lost visibility to a number of important performance metrics which are either not polled or supported via the Orion interface such as CPU Ready and CPU latency. Orion only supports…
  • Man, this is a tough one . . . on the basis of sheer power, Groot has it in the bag. On the other hand, the battle is about who is the best sidekick, and Chewbacca has been there through thick and thin for Han Solo. Let's break it down: Sheer physical strength Groot: Giant tree strength, no obvious vulnerable points, is…
  • This is a good start, but what would be even better from a VM configuration standpoint would be a "timeline" view, wherein one could see a history of changes to the VM.
  • We were told to do so within the context of a support ticket, but it was a long time ago, so I can't recall the SR #.
  • I'm trying to do something similar. The datastore.local:"false" argument does not work, so I tried to use name exclusion, which also fails. I think I had it working in 4.0.x, but I can't figure out the right query in 4.1.
  • It's definitely more useful than it was, but being unable to see more than the first five or six characters in an object name still limits the utility of the view.
  • Case # 250083, no response so far.
  • I feel your pain. Orion has been unable to poll our production vCenter servers for over a month, and Solarwinds support seems to be at a loss. Upgrading Orion is a little bit of a house of cards, and apparently Windows Server 2012 R2 is no longer supported, so I guess we'll be planning a migration to 2016. This is really…
  • Looks like deleting the administrator dashboard and restoring from to defaults did the trick.
  • Not being able to see the full object name is probably the major issue. Another issue is with how the icons are arranged and organized, however. Since the icons are locked into a static 3x3 grid, it's impossible to see more than nine objects of a particular class at once, which also makes it difficult to get a larger…
  • Case # is 249112. No response yet other than to request logs.
  • Hi, Jon, It appears that the the datastore.local:true argument does work in the most recent version. Thanks! Tom
  • Hi, Jonathan, If you could put a product manager in touch with me, that would be great. I still have some outstanding issues that I'd like addressed. Thanks, Tom
  • If there's a way they can help me get to a point where my environment is fully functional, that would be great.
  • Hi, Jon, Yes, the Map expansion is much better. Thanks, Tom
  • Unfortunately, that doesn't seem like the right query. I guess I'll open a ticket with Solarwinds and see if I can get the info that way.
  • Great, thanks!
  • The workaround of exporting the Administrator dashboard and reimporting it under a different name did work--the widgets do not get duplicated.
  • Thanks for the quick reply, Jon. I can delete the widgets, but they come back when I open a new Hyper9 session. Is there a way to make them go away permanently?
  • Hi, Jon, In this particular case, I'm trying to figure out which VMs were running on a datastore at the time of an outage. The Map view is useful from a sysadmin perspective but less so from a reporting perspective. In point of fact, it could use some enhancement with regard to how the objects are presented. It's hard to…
  • Add me to the list of people who'd love to see the ability to report on deleted VMs.
  • Brian, do you have any kind of estimate as to when this issue will be resolved? I should have taken a pre-upgrade backup or snapshot, but I didn't, and now our visibility into our VMware environment is significantly limited. Thanks, Tom
  • Hi, Jon, The Map view is great for seeing the state of the environment at that time (it would be even better if the component names weren't truncated), but that view is not ideal for, e.g., presenting reports to management about conditions immediately preceding an outage. For example, if a host goes down and HA kicks in to…
  • Thanks for the auditd information. Unfortunately, it looks like the version of auditd that we're running on our test server does not support the ENRICHED directive (it's a RHEL 6 box), so we'll have to make do with the raw data until we can upgrade. It's good info for our newer systems, though! Under the FileExecute…
  • Milan, Thanks for the suggestion--it was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, it didn't actually yield the desired result; for whatever reason, all but one of the servers show up as having been added at a date which is much later than when they actually came online. We had some issues with our VMAN installation,…
  • I guess it's been a while since I've logged into Thwack . . . anyway, I would expect the VMDK filenames you are posting to be associated with a snapshot. It sounds like VMware did not clean up after a snapshot and VMAN got confused.
  • Yes, and yes. I had a case open, 701014, which I tried to reopen, and I just opened a new one, 710412.
  • Hi Jon, If I open the shared link in a browser that is not the one in which I logged into Hyper9, then I get the same message. For example, if I open Hyper9 in Firefox and copy out the URL to the widget and open it in Internet Explorer, I get the message about the invalid widget token and then am prompted for a username…
