  • thank you, that IS helpful. it seems the CLI polling for PA really is good for the UDT. not sure what other value it would provide me, if any. That being said, I LOVE the new features for network insight for PA. The limitation for us though is that we use panorama for all our firewall config, and we are a big user of…
  • I was trying to get some SLA's on a connection over a port over a 3rd party circuit that we have. I doubt that I'll be able to convince this 3rd party to open up this additional UDP port on their firewall, so I guess I'm stuck.
  • I am still slightly confused... Where does one display these groups? Is it within a specific NPM resource that is filtered by custom property? As far as the second part, I guess that remains as a feature request. I would rather not make 20 different operations when I could make 1 operation, and assign it to multiple nodes,…
  • Not sure if this is still an issue for you or not.... We have our packeteers sending netflow information right into Solarwinds now. You can configure it to use netflow, V5, and it seems to work. In the packeteer it's in the setup tab, and then Flow detail records.
  • i figured it out from a previous post. I need to set the account to "by device type". This is under account manager, network performance monitor settings, node details view.
  • awesome news. thanks.
  • To answer your question... yes! I would love to see a component monitor with options or some type of wizard. That would be absolutely perfect. Also, thanks for the suggestion about sending the events to a syslog. Thought about that myself, but didn't want to install agents on hundreds of machines. I may have to if these…
  • I upgraded to 10.6 and this broke. I'm hoping the author can tweak to get it working again. Many thanks if you can make this happen!
  • We have been running pollers on both HP stand-alone servers, and HP blade servers with no issue. Our SQL DB is on a HP blade server with SAN disk. I have done LOTS of performance monitoring of the sql server hardware, especially disk I/O which is often where a SQL bottleneck truly is. I've got our database running on…
  • Thanks for the stories everyone.... Overall, it sounds like a decent upgrade compared to versions in the past. I'm still debating as to if I should wait for the inevitable service pack 1.
  • I would also love to see some additional monitoring for ESX disk I/O. All of our ESX storage is SAN based, so monitoring I/O for HBAs is becoming critical for us. I'd also be happy if there were some UnDPs for drive space utilization on our vmfs volumes.
  • I am going to add another gotcha to the list that I ran into. I have custom fields for both NCM and NPM. For example, I added a field for Country. In NPM, field was set to only allow 2 characters in database. I didn't have this limitation in NCM. The 1st time node-sync failed miserably because it was trying to import…
  • I can think of two "simple" additions that would be great features... 1. I know it's been suggested already, but a Notes section per node would be great. The ability to drill into the node and add free-form notes would be great. That way a technician can see past issues with the node, or see what help ticket # was assigned…
  • would you be willing to share this script? I'm looking for this functionality as well.
  • We are also running two additional web servers (load balanced) to keep the web traffic off of our very busy pollers. I wouldn't say we had a big increase in speed, but the whole point was to not bog down the pollers. The only gotcha is that you need be sure to install the additional web server components for each…
  • We think alike... I too would like to be able to add a view within my dashboard that will make an external database query from another system to return the data. For example, I would like to be able to display how many trouble tickets are pending in our queue in our ticketing system. Anyone figure out a good way to do…
  • thanks for the replies everyone. Unfortunately, we don't have SAM. Unfortunately, these values don't exist in snmp, otherwise the UnDP would be the easy way by far. It seems the world is moving to rest APIs more and more. Perhaps NPM needs to have some type of universal API poller, similar how they do it with snmp.
  • I should clarify... I am already attempting to poll my palo alto device using the "Poll for Palo Alto", and I am attempting to poll our Panorama appliance. Unfortunately, the default values that solarwinds is polling "out of the box" does not include the rest api value that I'm looking for.
  • I was getting the same thing with several of my accounts, but my Admin account was working fine. Instead of copying the admin account and then go through the pain of re-customizing, i did a little hack. I went into the actual database using the native ms sql tools and modified the orion database, specifically the…
  • I open the visio stencil and paste the object into a blank visio document. You can then copy/paste that object right into Atlas. You have to give the object a name when you paste it in. Usually it works, but sometimes I see the stencil comes up as incomplete looking. Once you paste the object into Atlas, it gets added to…

  • I've never really had an issue spacing nodes in Atlas before. When I space, I select the nodes and labels separately, because the labels move when the nodes move. So, I will select only the nodes, horizontally or vertically align, and then grab just the labels and align those as well. You can drag and drop the nodes or the…
  • I would also like this feature. I have some of this information displaying through a UdP, but it's very limited. I would love to see a native NPM resource for this.
  • I think I just answered my own question, so I'll post. First thing you have to do is adjust your security settings within NCM so the username/passwords are not encrypted in database. It's under File, Settings, Security, and then uncheck the bottom two boxes. Next open the Solarwinds Database manager from your NCM server.…
  • I would really like to be able to do this too. This really causes me a massive headache in my server migration.
  • thought i posted already but i don't see it out there. I have found that I don't need to do a full service restart to get my site working again. I can go into IIS manager, expand application pools folder, right-click on defaultAppPool and hit recycle. It's instant and more often than not it will bring my website back up.
  • i am also having this issue. All the devices in click on, even servers, go to the node details view instead of the server details view. I have checked and re-checked the settings in "views by device type". I have all windows servers to "server details", but all nodes still pop up to "node details". I swear I had this…
