When I was in Oklahoma City - truly becoming a world-class city, seriously if you get the chance you have to visit there - I was a member of InfraGuard. InfraGuard is sponsored by the FBI and provides a great resource for discussing security amongst the local businesses. Since it is sponsored by the FBI all members are…

The answer to today's question is what I thought it would be - but I really, really, hoped for a different answer. SolarWinds you know which answer we all wanted it to be - can you build a product for that? (I realize it could actually be impossible)

No MONITORS - how did you get your daily Dilbert? Shop? Hulu?

The postmortem is so valuable - if the information is then used. I've seen times where the team would look and say what can we do better and then build a plan to execute. But, I've also seen times where the what do we need is reflected upon and then forgotten.

You guys are getting it all confused. Kong asked who wore it better not who looked better wearing it. For that Kong looks the most natural in the hat the way he's wearing it. I vote Kong. But I'd love to spend time with each of them.

I remember marketing materials from about 5-6 years ago where HP was touting that the power management in their latest (at that time) generation of servers was so good that the power savings would pay for the cost of the actual server over 3 years. Now I didn't see the actual math, but if it were true a savvy finance…

Some come down on the side that the cloud is the future and the cloud is everything, others come down on the side of no, never, ever. It's wise to evaluate the pro's and con's of both on premises, cloud and co-located. (I'm sure I'm missing other options as well) An example for cloud would be churches streaming live…

Nice prize for your first win - Congrats.

This is an area where i definitely want to learn more. Thanks for the post.

Yes, and I had the really tall "sissy bar" on the back.

Everything we do in this business is double-edged. If we don't standardize then there is more to learn, more chance of mistake and replacing a team member gets that much harder. If we do standardize then we miss the mark on some of our goals and possibly cannot do some of the things we'd like to because the chosen tools…

I had a lot of "use it or lose it" vacation time. So I got the week before Thanksgiving off, the week before Christmas and in 2 weeks we are going to visit my daughter which is expecting her first child.

TCO - so often things like this are considered as a cost savings without looking at the entire picture. For example When we had Exchange on premises adding a user was 1) create account in AD, make sure the email field is populated With hybrid Exchange 1) Create account in AD 2) Create email account in cloud 3) assign…

WOOT WOOT Grew up in Deer Park Nice to have another Bengals fan.

Comment fields are always appreciated. We are trying diligently to make Solarwinds our Single Point of Truth for documenting things. I have several custom fields that I have created for that purpose.

I'm not a "big government" guy so I prefer that the government stay out of most things. That said if a company makes a claim that is false or misleading then there needs to be some accountability. These reports show evidence of situations where government intervention is warranted.

Talk about archaic - look at the medical field. Many of our systems must have FDA approval - which takes literally years. I remember receiving "brand new" servers for an FDA approved application. Those brand new servers were 4 Generations behind what was in the market currently because that was the generation on which the…

Congrats to the winners.

Nice article and well explained.

Good information. Although we've all heard a lot of it before it bears repeating because I'd bet a lot of Leon's money that there's no one here that consistently and reliably "ticks all of those boxes."

While Cisco is still the 800 lb gorilla there are a lot of vendors that are making great products now days. I'm glad that the other vendors get some "air time" with SolarWinds and especially grateful the custom polling can be easily created for those items not directly supported.

It's looking good for TWEETz

This is far better than the log management that I "grew up on" with NPM. I really appreciate the improvements.

Congrats @lcadwallader and try to stay awake at work with all that coffee

Having worked in a hospital environment in the past I like articles on that. The problem with checklist is that we are dealing with humans - sometimes there is ego involved, sometimes neglect and sometimes just plain laziness. If you've done something many times you feel like you don't need a checklist.

Glad to help. Review written, sent and forwarded.

Don't feel badly, I have done that so many times I can't count (well, I can count, but I can't count how many times I've missed a question for a silly reason) Generally for me is just plain over thinking it. That's also why I hate taking tests "well it could be a, but b sounds pretty good, well it can't be c, or can it?"
