Thanks for the very thorough article. Great resource as I work with my government clients.

Three answers appear correct, should the question be from which device is Log Manager Not gathering data?

Perception means a lot. There are a lot of followers of Musk and think he's great - I'm not taking a side here - but he should also consider his public image before making such decisions. On the other side of that - there are a lot of "fake" buttons, but they give a bit of security. People push them thinking that they are…

Very interesting perspective. I know the whole concept of fences is something that I need to keep in the forefront of my thinking. It seems those fences that we erect in our minds go up easily and quickly and only come down when we are very intentional about removing them.

I just uploaded a file from last week. The odd thing, which is why I uploaded last weeks data, is that I'm not seeing data on any of my NetPaths currently.

Care to highlight the ones you can't monitor - you might get some tips from the peanut gallery around here.

Stories like that are part of the reason I'm a supporter of Compassion International.

I haven't used this product for a few years, but I really like the enhancements. I've downloaded the demo and hopefully my current group will look into it.

We lost our DBA and now that I've installed Database Performance Analyzer - OH NO - I'm seeing a lot of areas that need tweaking. Any good resources for the generalist to look for "how to fix it" documents, etc.?

All of these articles are double-sided. Yes, we get better security from the "bad guys" but we also give more trust to those that we are "trusting." But what happens when the guys we are trusting become the "bad guys?" I'm not trying to start anything here, but my experiences with Google of late is that they have become…

It depends is so often the answer in this business. The problem for me is that I just don't seem to have the skill for coding. I'm good at networking, security, server administration and yes, I even have good people skills. But when it comes to coding - even PowerShell the best I can do is to grab an existing script and…

Answers in the video, Just not as obvious as some of the other answers.

Add to that better descriptions of the requirements. For example - I'm halfway through Smarty Pants (thought I had both requirements met but apparently not) Am I missing the 2 correct answers or the 2 helpful answers? I would expect the bars to represent the requirements in order, but . . .

Good observations, the biggest to me is that dissonance between management and staff. Don't worry over which side is right, but strive to be on the same page together - that way, we are all journeying in the same direction. This is a good opportunity to build unity with your team and leadership.

Youz Guyz always take such good care of us. We appreciate your hard work!

My biggest nightmare was the night that I was called into the Data Center because power had dropped and the UPS failed to switch over to the generator. Our entire data center went black - all of the Windows servers, all of the Sun servers, all of the network, the phone system (which served our company and dozens of state…

I'm a big proponent of change control - but it needs to be well thought out, organized and efficient. I worked with a company once that the initial go-round of change control could take up to 2 weeks to get a change approved - that didn't work for my organization as our customer was used to requesting a change in the…

I never did punch cards or reel tape, but I do remember my first "storage" was cassette tapes. I've mentioned it here before, but I'd like to see more smaller organizations adopting the jbod boxes like all the big boys use. Better performance, more redundancy, lower price, with the downside of it not being a product…

All of this information is applicable to the business of everyone on Thwack, but the risk varies for the type of business. If a small local shop screws up and runs themselves out of business it's a shame and it hurts his family. If a large business has a leak - Where's that little Dutch boy when you need him - it causes…

I can relate to this right now. I just changed jobs and went from healthcare to an engineering firm. This firm does a lot with Integrated Traffic Systems - way different arena. It's easy to doubt when you come across new documentation, new terms, new ways of thinking, etc. But I realize that I've learned a lot in every…

I would fall more into the PMM position. I like bridging the gap and helping both sides of the puzzle - to mix a metaphor.

All of these regulations are two sided. While they add protection they also add red tape and expenses. It's critical that every company take security as their own responsibility rather than just relying on legislation. To that end I feel that security needs to be considered in every element. What I mean is that in the "old…

Welcome yumdarling. You are now a part of the best part of SolarWinds. The Thwack community is helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. No, that's the Boy Scouts, but there is a lot of similarity.

I have a friend that worked for a government agency and his process for destroying a hard drive was. * DoD wipe the drive * Smash the drive with a sledgehammer * Incinerate the drive They wanted to ensure that if the drive escaped anywhere along the way the data was destroyed.

What are you using to build your runbook? Do you have a good way of extracting your SolarWinds data for such?
-
Awesome, that took me over 125,000!

I've been testing SAM 6.4 in a test VM - looking forward to installing the Release Candidate in production tomorrow morning.

I love all the training that Solarwinds provides. Certainly something I mention every time I tell someone about Solarwinds.
