As much as I would like to have that kind of system here, it would never be tolerated.

The problem lies with local legislation for some countries that makes drawing the winners and sending the prizes a PITA. I've seen some places where you don't have the right to do a contest of skills (the Thwack Missions could arguably be considered contests of skills). There's also some laws on lottery where Solarwinds…

To that, I answer: "but the ice is slippery". Oh... sorry, wrong movie...

All good this week too... might have been the need for vacations that caused me to miss half the questions for the first two weeks. I'm already shopping on TG for when I receive my gift card.

Thought so... Still sounds funny though. Thanks for the lightning fast reply DanielleH !

I was reading the T&C (don't judge me... yes, I'm one of those who reads the fine prints) and here's an excerpt (my emphasis) : "7. Prizes: On December 20, 2013, twelve (12) winners will receive a $500 Amazon gift card, with an approximate value of $500 USD. [...]" How can a $500 card have an approximate value of $500 ?…

There is a clear distinction in my mind between "high CPU" and "100% CPU". High CPU : if you run over your baseline for an extended period of time, there could be something to investigate. Maybe your load has changed and you have to update your baseline ? Maybe there is a process going wild ? Maybe some users are running…

I'll be foolowing this serie with attention. I'm currently using DPI as forensic only, to find the culprit after the deed. "On-the-fly" DPI for prevention might prove to be an interesting topic.

I am sad to admit we currently only monitor up/down. 10% usable is still up. We will be moving to a more performance-driven monitoring solution sometimes next year probably.

Hello people ! I just made the crossword into a XLSX file, easier to fill than a JPEG or a printed version (never seem to have a pen nearby when I need one)... Hint numbers are in the cell comments. Thwack_Oct_2014_Crossword.xlsx I'm open to criticism

Thank you ! Unfortunately, no drawing for me (I'm in Canada) but ka-tching ! Points ! It's also a lot of fun and a nice way to learn about a product I didn't quite know enough about.

While not for a website, the principle remains the same, and like cahunt, I use a second internet connection to test performance of our VPN system, or just the hotspot from my phone, which gives me enough bandwidth to do a meaningful test. It also isolates me from the LAN side of Things-That-Could-Go-Wrong .

Won't this need an update of the Orion Database to the new Onion Database ? Are the sandwiches instances of a sandwich class or they are all different objects ? Because, at least the sandwich I know, are not reusable objects. When you use Sandwich Monitor 1.0, your sandwiches are garbage collected twice !
