Yeah, 5 would be the correct answer for "how many severity categories does Orion have?" but VMware has its own, and that is what the question was digging for.
-
BUMP, and maybe this might be possible: Multiple limitation types for account permissions Granular Node Management Rights.

Awesome. Thank you for including the descriptions!

Getting the team into a "GitOps" habit can be a great start, even if you need to avoid using those kinds of words around resistant team members. Noone truly enjoys ClickOps, especially when it's frequently repeated. A few ways to help get this started: * Get the team into the idea of keeping all of their PowerShell scripts…

I haven't gotten a new Solarwinds certification since the move to Credly, but I know Microsoft's badges used to show up within a day.
-
It's ironic that Microsoft just pulled out of their contract with Credly so I'm back to not having all of my badges and certs in one place.
-
Please note that domain controllers should be monitored with a separate account than the rest of your servers to minimize use of domain admin credentials throughout the environment.
-
Nice, I have a few in Credly already and like having things like this in one place.
-
Congratulations!

Yeah, the statistic should be an integer... And apparently the message cannot have a newline character! (I wonder if there's a list of anything else that it cannot contain.)
-
You'll want to ask this question in the SAM forum: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/product-forums/server-application-monitor-sam. Move it there, and we may already have answer.
-
No, but that's an interesting idea. Are you looking to provide the information in more focused, condensed form as a working script, or to make something customized to your organization's standards and workflows?
-
Each MESSAGE that you return has to be returned with an associated STATISTIC -- if I recall correctly, the message output is optional, but the statistic is required. The statistic is the portion actually being monitored and evaluated for alerting.
-
No, you should never have the agent’s ports or any part of Orion open on the internet. Ever. I need to get back to my desk to find more information for you, but had to start with that! There may be pros and cons, but you also do not need to give that account domain admin privs 95% of the time.
-
Yes, you can do this by creating a new alert and enabling the complex conditions option on the triggers page. This should let you set the status of two nodes as criteria if I remember correctly. I'm not near a computer today, but can double check and try to grab screen shots on Monday if that would be helpful.

Normally the "x days left" alerts refer to capacity limits. I haven't seen this one myself, but might infer that the CPU utilization has been consistently trending upward and NPM expects it to hit 100% if either (A) more CPUs are not added or (B) if the process causing high CPU usage is not remediated.
-
NPM is polling the physical hardware sensors on the router so it can alert about any problems. The ones shown in these screen shots are watching for any power levels (voltage) outside of normal ranges for the router. Voltage going too high or too low could damage the device. The second screen shot is monitoring the…

There are probably logs somewhere that reveal the problem. Without knowing anything about your environment, the best and quickest advice I can share is: * Open a support case ASAP to reduce wait times later * Re-running the configuration wizard is quick, and often fixes random issues. There is a Permissions Checker in the…

There's a lot to like about PerfStack, but I think the most fundamental, and my favorite, is the ability to show specific metrics for the whole stack at a specific point in time (or a range). It's great for finding correlation or for potentially ruling out problems at that point in time.
-
The only change that I’m aware of was to upgrade to versions that were not affected.

Do the logs indicate that it is failing because the certificate is expired, or because it does not trust the CA? If you or a colleague has permissions, can the certificate be replaced with a valid (not expired) one? You should also confirm that the issuing CA's certificate is in the relevant certificate store on the Orion…

I do still see alerts about agent-managed nodes whenever their polling engine is restarted. They all alert 'down' and almost instantly back 'up' after restarting. If it's a planned event, the only workaround that I currently have is to go to the Alerts page, hit the 'more' menu, and tick the 'pause actions on all alerts'…

It depends on the application and on what you're looking to monitor. If you only want to monitor running processes, then SNMP credentials will be enough. If you want to monitor ports and web application sites/URLs, then you may not need any credentials unless the URL requires authentication. If you want to pull statistics…
-
Dave, can you clarify the question/problem that you are trying to solve?
-
Try re-running the Configuration Wizard. This often fixes issues like this.
-
Hey, that's really cool to hear!
-
Absolutely agree. I was intending to start with a very basic response and then add more detail, but it looks like a big chunk of that didn't copy/paste correctly and I was on my phone, so didn't notice it. I would delete that waste of a post if THWACK would let me! Haha
-
@"yumdarling", thank you for planting and tending this garden over the past two years. Your legacy of helping, humor, and commitment has been felt on THWACK and will be missed, but not forgotten!
-
Done! Looking forward to continued development of a modern UI for Orion.

This sounds very similar to something that I have wondered -- is this script close to being a query that could show any application component monitor that has overridden the default template value/threshold for the component?
