Everything can be on a single server and leverage a single database (ideal if you want to have both product data sets available in conjunction with one another). Have you reviewed Orion multi-module system guidelines, to gain an understanding of how to appropriately size your environment?

Execution mode should be set to local host. Essentially the PowerShell script is executing on the local Orion server and returning the results after interaction with external Office 365 APIs.

When you say it is causing a delay, is this because the UI is fully rendered for the user while the rest of page loads in the background, therefore the time to load the page does not necessarily reflect the time it take for the user to be able to interact with the UI? What exactly are you trying to monitor in this use case?
