  • Checking in with this post to see if anyone has had a chance to look it over yet. If so, please add advice. Thanks-
  • I have run into this issue on several occasions, usually when the server has experienced some kind of change or issue. This included a VMotion (in a virtual environment) that caused some issues, as well as a reboot after patching and some module updates. Normally I was logged into the server as myself, and when I tried to…
  • I agree with what has already mentioned. Just wanted to note that child-parent relationships are used more for suppression of alerting rather than filtering or drilling down. I have used dependencies to avoid alert floods by setting a dual router HSRP configuration as a parent node, and all other nodes at a site as…
  • You could put an additional poller into production. This does require an additional poller license. At my current job, we have one poller/management server. At my previous job, we had a primary poller/management server which covered our North America operations, and additional poller for Europe, and a third poller for…
  • I have set up quite a few APC UPS units and done alerting off of them. Not sure if you have them set up the same way, but I used a grouping of custom pollers for APC units and had them set up for each unit I had in monitoring. I was able to set up alerts when a location was on battery and others similar to that by keying…
  • I can think of one or two things, but don't know for sure what might be happening. Make sure you are getting the wording right if you are manually entering the variable. I have also found that looking at the tables is helpful when looking at variables. Sometimes it helps to put the actual variable in context. What kind of…
  • Usually it is just DNS or naming directly from the admin console directly on the device. For Windows servers, I always seemed to get DNS or whatever the Windows admins set up. For other things like environmental monitors that I set up, I would get whatever I put in the console when I configured the device through the…
  • I have defined several custom views in the environment. While I have not done a view restricted to a single tab, I don't see any reason why you would not be able to do it. It would just be a matter of removing all that you don't want to use and then setting that view for a particular group that you have defined. You would…
  • At the company I just left, we were using a product called Attention for our alert SMS and Voice Call needs with regard to escalation. We used the Attention NS (Notification System) as well as the Attention AM (Alarm Manager) systems. This gave us the ability to set up escalation and email groups, and also use Rosters and…
  • I use this all this time. On Orion Summary Home or in the Manage Nodes window, I very frequently right click on a node and use Open in a New Tab. I have pulled up many nodes at one time this way. I have done this with many browsers as long as I have used Solarwinds at two jobs. I am not sure if the toolset gives a…
  • I ended up opening a ticket on the issue. I ran a session trace and provided it to the tech that replied and he indicated that there were issues with the rights of the user account we were using for the config backups (the process was stopping at Show Running). I switched the user account to one I know has rights, and was…
  • This was noticed today in my environment. What complicated it is that I upgraded NPM and NCM last week, so I wasn't sure if this was the cause. Though it was initially thought to be, I found that it did not occur on all routers, just a few. I also found that these routers were updated about a month ago, and I am wondering…
  • Got this done last Friday. Some of the steps were a bit different than the instructions detailed, and I had an issue installing .Net 4 on the additional pollers, but I did get it done. I am now going through verification of all the added functionality. Right now, the only major issues I have seen so far is that I am not…
  • In reviewing the process, a couple other questions have come up, in regards to NPM integration. Looking through the documentation, I am seeing that NPM needs to be at 10.2 for NCM 7.0.2 to integrate. However, our NPM is at 10.1.3. Can I just upgrade NCM now, then upgrade NPM at a later date and integrate at that time? What…
  • I actually had this occur yesterday, so I guess it still exists. I ended up deleting both of the similar named groups and adding them back in. Also, for some reason, a user is not getting permissions that I assigned to one of the groups. For example, I have 3 groups, with 1 and 2 having the same name, but being in 2…
  • Just wanted to say thanks. I ran a diagnostic and started looking through the logs. I found multiple entries in the Network Sonar Discovery logs for the IPs I mentioned. Many were in context to discovery scans of the VMs. I then disabled the discovery scan for a night and the entries did not show up, so that confirmed it a…
  • Okay, I think I am getting closer to figuring this out. I figured that I would have to start digging to find the problem. Unfortunately I had trouble accessing the DB with the rights I have, and I have been waiting for someone to provide the correct rights. However, yesterday I decided to run diagnostics and start digging…
  • Okay, I got a bit more info. I was incorrect about the addresses being scanned. They are actually 192.168.2.x addresses, and the scan seems to be targeting addresses .3 through .8. Either way, the addresses are not being used in our environment. I actually looked at the firewall log with our admin, and saw the listing for…
  • Okay, I have been looking around in settings a bit. While IPAM seemed like it could fit, I could find no listing of the IP addresses I mentioned anywhere in IPAM. Not in the addresses, scope or scan settings. I then started going to other applications, starting with NTM, another application I am not very familiar with. I…
  • Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to give this much thought yet. I am hoping someone has seen this before and can offer some input.
  • Personally, I have gotten around this using what mentioned in number 2, that is setting the Volume Type = Fixed Disk.
  • I should also note that I don't want to do this through a menu bar. I want to drill down into Groups, click on the group, and see the view I created for that group.
  • I must be missing something right? I can even create a View Limitation and restrict it to a specific group of nodes? Why have this in group view if it pertains to all nodes anyways.
  • I have encountered this problem, as well in our environment. I should start off by saying that I am fairly new to Solarwinds Orion admin--we previously hired this service out and brought it in-house at the end of last year. So, if I am off on any of my terminology, I apologize. Recently, I imported a large number of nodes…
  • Providing you have the licensing, you would have to download the additional poller package to the server that would act as a secondary poller. This is a relatively large package (about 1.5 - 2.0 GB). You would then need to install the package and run the configuration. It is relatively straightforward, if I understand your…
  • This could be for a number of reasons. The first thing to check would be the type of logon set up for the particular device in NCM. This would either be User or Device. If it is set to User, then the credentials entered in the NCM console for global rights would need to have enable rights on the device. If the device that…
  • Can you provide more details? If you have the NCM module, you can use it to store configs for your switches, and also push the configs out to switches whenever you want. Is this something along the lines of what you are referring to?
  • I have done this with servers as well as network devices. My experience with servers lines up with branfarm's, in that all of the information refreshes upon rediscovery and all goes well, with the exception of volumes. Most of the time I have to delete old volumes and add the new volumes back in through List Resources.
  • It looks like some time has passed on this question. While there is some confirmation, I would like to know if there is a definitive answer from Solarwinds yet. My DBA is asking to update our SQL 2008 install to SP1, and I would like to give an answer that is certain. Does anyone know at this time? Thanks-
  • Revisting this after quite some time, as it has become an issue again, and I never really got it resolved. I don't know a lot about NCM, and that is leading to many of the issues I am seeing. I want to back up the files located on the device, but I really don't know how to even begin. The linked thread mentions modifying a…
