I don't see a problem with this honestly. Amazon has nearly limitless cash to spend on advertising, if they chose they could simply flood the market and push anyone else off the front page pretty easily. The small guys with limited budgets would not be able to keep pace.

There are some very scary and relevant points made here. Like silverbacksays said, "You just don't know what internal 'analytics' they're going to run on your data once it's sitting on their tin." This is very scary and you have no control over your data once its on their systems. They can do what ever they want with it.…

Everyone talks security being easier with the cloud stuff, but I don't see it. I have major questions relating to it that I have never gotten answers to. Is the vendor required to report a breach to you? What constitutes a breach? How long do they have to report the breach to you? What kind of detail to they have to give…

I see where you are coming from, but lets look at it from another perspective. If you build a highway and 75% of the traffic on that highway ends up being Chevy vehicles, is it fair for you to go to Chevy and demand they pay you money because they have so many vehicles on your highway compared to all other automotive…

Our partner Aurora is going through something like this right now. They are in the process of putting each and every application server group on its own little subnet, and then firewalling it off from everything else. It has created a huge amount of problems for us because they tend to forget about us when they put in the…

I agree with a lot of what you say. I do have to disagree with you on 5, and while I agree with the spirit of 6 it ties back into number 5 and my issue with it. For a lot of the younger generation just leaving college and entering the IT world for the first time, they are coming out with record amounts of crushing student…

I work in an IT department that has been shrinking while our infrastructure and technology requirements have been drastically growing. My network engineer that was here for 15 years just left a few months ago for a job that was not as demanding and treated their employees better. Getting back on topic, most of the people…

Your Bratwurst is in another database grillout.

You have to take it a step further then just full on failure. A poorly performing network can cause just as many issues, if not more, then a full outage all together. In our facilities if something is working but very slow, people will continue to use it instead of switching to downtime. We learned this the hard way…

We had a situation where packet inspection helped us prove to the vendor that it was in fact "not the network" that was causing the issue. The problem was intermittent, but it always happened at the same time, 5 min after the hour, but not every hour. Problem is their error logs on the clients kept stating "slow network"…

I see what you did there.......

My job title is Network Analyst. I touch the network maybe 10% of the time. I spend more time on servers then the network right now, I would say 15%-20%. The other 70%-75% is spent eyebrow deep in PRTG and LEM right now. We have had both for a couple of years, but no one ever took the time to make much use of them. I got…

True. Most of the IT people I work with around here call it the dos prompt. We all know its not dos, but for some reason we just call it that. We know to type cmd, not ms-dos when we want to launch it. Just seems to be easier or ingrained to call it the dos prompt. Potato Potato.

I guess I can see something like this possibly being useful in some industries. Bust most I do not. It would be great if the business wanted to support people learning cross platform systems like coders learning operations stuff and operators learning cording stuff. Sadly most companies don't even want to train people for…

I only thought of it because it was literally fresh in my mind because it happened to us this week. I literally had an RN in the Emergency Department yelling at me because she couldn't get meds out of the Pyxis vending machine up there because of the slowness. She is like I can't do my job because of this why are you guys…

I wish more businesses and employers worked the way you do things!!!

ecklerwr1 you likely need to whitelist rumbletalk.net and rumbletalk.com I did that and the chat works fine for the labs now.

I almost made the same mistake, as the LEM system in its full scope can in fact undo changes that are made. But the FIM tool specifically, only detects the changes. The FIM tool cannot make any actual changes though. That is the domain of the Active Response tool, which can use information revealed by the FIM tool to undo…

We are, in the grand scheme of things, a pretty small environment here and we use Kiwi. It is an amazing tool for trapping and logging. You can even use it for alerting. We have really only started toying with that aspect of it, but what I have figured out on it so far has been a great improvement. The best example so far…

True, but then again it only gets above 90 here on average less then 6 days a year. Also do not have to worry about hurricanes. I imagine people in the south would laugh at us for some of the things they deal with weather wise!

I live in Wisconsin, if we get any more rain, we are going to become a new Great Lake. I haven't been able to mow my lawn yet because if it step into it, I will sink into it. Though the standing water is finally gone, so I might be able to by this weekend.

I look forward to the day autonomous vehicles are wide spread. It will take a huge load off of the police forces around the country and allow them to focus on real crime instead of traffic enforcement. But then again without handing out speed tickets and DUI/OWA/DWI tickets and fines most of the police forces will likely…

I was just getting into an interesting discussion with a few of my gaming buddies from over seas in that region about distances and sizes of things like the united states in that individual states here compared to what they have over there. I made the comment to one of them that I was excited to go see a concert this…

I tried reading that "Leon Likes (a)literation. Lots." in my head, and now my tong is tied in a knot.

My prediction is that it comes down to Picard and Sparrow, with Picard winning it all!

The dog with the gopro put it over the edge for me. I busted out laughing. Had to show it to a few other people in the office. They busted out laughing too. Looks like a good time, count me in!

Funny story about this almost exact thing happening where I am at. A car was stolen, police found it later, the thief left their iphone in the car, unlocked. The cops had full access to the persons facebook and the cops took a selfie with a note about what happened and said the person can turn themselfs in, on their own…

Yeah it is hard to pick just one. Would have to say when a company was on site doing a presentation for the C levels and some of the board members, after hours of course. I get a call that they are having problems so I come right in. The company has a laptop and some software they use for their presentations. The laptop…

I think the difference this time around is that it results in half the american population having their credit (lives) basically hung out to dry as a result of this. There will be consequences, at least I hope. Congress is already looking at ways to lock these companies down and prevent this kind of issue, and their…
